I am seriously getting thinking about joining the DVC, but can't figure which resort would be best. Any opinions on one resort over another? Any help would be appreciated. Likes-Dislikes, or Pro-Cons.

We are a family of 4 (Me, DW, DD3, DD1) don't need more than the 1 bedroom at most.

Thanks,

Tony

That is a tough question to answer. All the resorts have their own unique character. Prices vary depending how you purchase. So all I can do is speak from my experience when we purchased. Our biggest stipulation is that we wanted to be walking distance to the parks or boat ride to the parks. This narrowed our search to three...VWL.BCV.BWV. So after some real quick consideration we went with BWV......one of the others reasons is the nightlife and the performers on the Boardwalk during the evening. But that was us....do reasearch and look at all the resorts on line. Right now I believe there are incentives for AKV and SSR. Remember if you buy there your not stuck there.....but the motto is "Buy where you want to stay."

I would say the main thing is to decide where that you want to stay most of the time then thats where I would buy.
I would satrt out with the minimum from disney which is 160 points and then with the promotion they are running now you would get 100 developer points also.Anymore questions feel free to ask.

We bought AKV when we were there last year. Disney was offering incentives for AKV and SSR at the time we purchased. There are resale markets out there where you can buy into the other resorts if you prefer.

The decision for you should be based on what is important to you, but also consider the life of the contract. AKV is away from most of the Disney "park and party" scene, but offers the benefit of a more relaxed atmosphere :cool1: :happytv: :rolleyes1 and the ability to sit on your balcony and watch the animals on the Savanna.:woohoo: :coffee: At this time in our lives, at the higher end of the young range (me-48, DW-46), the parks are still exciting for us and our older boys, but we know that in time the tranquility of being away from it all, and the ability to take grandkids to see the animals will become more important.:love1: We got to stay two nights at SSR and it seemed to be more relaxed, but it and OKW are near Epcot and DTD, if that is important to you or your family.:dance3:  :yay: :woohoo:

Each resort has its pros and cons. Read all you can on The DIS about the different resorts (there are threads everywhere) and figure out what is right for you and your own situation. You aren't "stuck" at any one resort all the time when you buy because you can make ressies at any of them, but you should purchase at the one that fits you best because it is normally a lot easier to get a reservation 11 months out at your home resort, than at some of the others when the 7 month window opens for you.

First, buying DVC is a big commitment and expense.

Which resort to buy is a personal choice. The reosrt you love now or seems to fit your family now, may change as your family grows/gets older.

I would say that if location does not matter, take a look at the two "new" resorts that are being offered. The current promo is a real good deal.

If you want to stay at one of the Epcot Resorts, buy resale at one of those two. There is nothing worse then buying something and realizing you hate it.

Ask all the questions you can think of.

I picked SSR due to the longer contract left. Also, currently the dues are cheaper then most which of course can change. I also liked the resort is a DVC with 700+ rooms. At 11 months I have a better chance at getting what I want. I do like it's in walking distance of Downtown Disney and has a Spa.
I agree with others it is a personal choice, but these are my reasons.

Does contract life make a difference to you?
Does price per point matter?
Do you want to be able to walk to Epcot or boat to MK?
Will you have a car on your trips?
Do you prefer a hotel style resort or a more spread out condo style resort?
Do you have a favorite on-site resort currently?
Do you really like a particular pool (notably SAB)?
Do you want value in dues?
Is theming and/or decor important to you? If so, this is a matter of taste, for everyone who thinks the VWL is wonderful and loves it, someone else thinks its "too dark."
Do you want access to a food court?
Do you want easy access to a lot of restaurants? From there - how easy?
Do you see yourself using a community hall?
Is there a resort that "sings" to you?
Are there any resorts that you don't "get" why anyone would like them?
Will you need Grand Villas? How about two queens in the second bedroom?

The final thing to keep in mind is that - generally, but not always - its easier to book bigger resorts as a non-owner than smaller resorts. This is particularly true of VWL over the holidays (which is really November - New Years) and the Epcot resorts starting with Food and Wine and going to mid-January (marathon). You probably won't have nearly as many disappointments trying to book OKW or SSR as a non-owner as you may encounter (but may not) booking BCV.
