Which Resort?

Our family is going to WDW in June08. Now, I have been to WDW in the past, staying at POFQ, and AKL. We are thinking about staying at one of the value resorts, but I have a problem with the word "value". Now, I could be wrong. They might be just fine. But I like the looks of the moderate resorts better. Am I sounding spoiled?

I'd take the phrases Value, Moderate and Deluxe and toss them aside. Think about which theme you would like to be absorbed in on your next vacation and "Go For It". Not selfish at all. It is an experience that everyone is after and that should be a part of your planning. It seems you have some choices in mind, so I would say make it happen. :thumbsup2

I have stayed at CBR twice. Before my first visit, I was a little concerned about whether or not I would like it and feel comfortable. Outside of Disney World, I had never stayed at a 'motel' or a hotel that didn't have inside corridors, or room service, and a few other amenities. Call me spoiled, I don't care, I just had never stayed at a place like that. I tried CBR, and it was great! I felt safe, and returned for a second trip as a single mom with DS.

While I would definitely prefer to stay deluxe, as a single mom, I simply can't afford $300 - 400 a night right now for a week. After much research and reading here on the DIS, I am considering a trip to POP in January for DS and myself. I have read many times on here where people actually prefer POP over some of the deluxe resorts. I don't think we can compare WDW resorts, value, moderate or deluxe to a typical resort or hotel outside of the WDW. I think that there are definitely going to be differences for us staying at POP, but we are at Disney. POP looks so 'fun and crazy' and our trip in January will be for a long weekend if we go, and so we won't be in the room much at all. I think that makes a difference. Both of our trips to CBR were longer and we actually spent time at the resort. Little kids screaming drive me crazy, so I don't know if I would want to spend a week there, but we are going to give this a try. If we don't get the value price, we would probably not be going for another 6 months or year.

I think that value, moderate, and deluxe give us a good description on the type of experience it will offer us. I have read several times and I agree that the resort you choose should reflect the experience you are looking for for that particular trip. Before, I wanted a 'vacation' experience, therefore CBR worked for us. This purpose of this trip is going to be for the park experience, and to have 'fun', and I think POP will meet that need.

To me, there is a pretty big difference between the value resorts and the mod's, although the difference in price is not all that much. I would rather pay the extra $30-50 a night to stay at CSR than POP or AS resorts any day. Granted, they are all huge resorts, but there is a def difference in the rooms, etc. I say pay the few hundred extra and stay in a mod. I assure you thats not spoiled. Now if you were talking about $400 a night for the Poly, well thats another story:)

It pays to experiment. You never know until you try something new. As long as you stick with Disney it is pretty much a guarantee you will enjoy yourself. You may even find yourself a new favorite in the process.
