Can someone tell me the big difference between staying on a Universal resort and a WDW resort. I have an boy 11 and a girl 7. I would like to have them see it all but dont think thats possible in 5 or 6 days. True?

What do you mean by see it all?
Do you mean to split your stay between Disney and USF?
It can be done. You stay 3 nights at Disney and 2 nights at USF in that order. Disney has everyone brainwashed into thinking they need to spend a week. That's because most people tour the parks slowly, and the rides at Disney take longer because of the pre-shows. But you can tour Disney in 3 days. You visit one park in the morning, and then another park at night, doing the highlites.
When you stay onsite at USF, you'll be spoiled with FOTL and you'll have plenty of time to see everything.

i would recommend the Royal Pacific Resort, considering the age of your kids. if they were teenagers, i might say the Hard Rock Hotel. There really isnt that much of a difference between them and WDW hotels, to the best of my knowledge. i stayed at one WDW resort but that's been years.

At Universal, you get front of the line - just show your room key from their on-site hotels.

I totally agree with this. We were in Orlando last month - three nights at Boardwalk Inn and two nights at Portofino Bay - it was perfect.
