Ok, maybe I'm a bit ahead of myself, but I have a contract in ROFR. I'm hoping it goes through. Assuming it does, our next trip will be Aug 2012 for 8 nights in a 1bdrm. My kids will be 9 and 4 at that time.

My question...which resort????

BLT: Dream of staying there but wondering if I should venture to BW
BWV: Have never even seen the Boardwalk, can't wait to try it out!
BCV: Want to try SAB but like BWV nervous of buses to MK
AKL: Eventually, not yet.
OKW: Very excited to try here but gonna shoot for closer to parks this time.
SSR: Same as OKW (this'll be Home if we pass) Excited for THV,
WLV: Stayed at WL, hoping for something new this time.

Also, would you book at your home resort at 11 months out and switch at 7 or just wait till 7 months????

August is high occupancy, so you will probably need to stay at SSR. You should only buy where you want to stay because it's not always easy to reserve non-home resorts, especially for stays over 7 days. Don't wait until 7 months to reserve.

:) You always want a plan at 11 months out at your home resort--if possible. So if you pass, make a reservation at your home resort 11 months from check in--then waitlist somewhere else. If you do not get your waitlist or can't get a room at 7 months you will always have a place to stay. You will definitely have to book 11 months out if you want a THV--only about 30 of those released to DVC so far. I am partial to AKV. THey all have nice pools and things to do. Take some time and look at rooms on the website to see which you like best.

If you are planning for August it is silly not to take advantage of the 11 month home priority. :thumbsup2

what resort is your contract for or did I miss something?

Definately make a reservation at 11 months for your home resort, then at 7 months try for one of the others or waitlist if it's not available. I'd suggest you try AKV. The new pool area is really neat and the animals will keep them busy as well. Although some folks say it's a long ride to the parks, I found them not much different than the other ones. Also the busses for AKV ONLY go to AKV, you're not making stops at other places along the way (or several stops inside of the resort on your way... only 2 Kidani and Jambo and then off to wherever your heading).

Book at 11 months so you are sure of something then change. I think if you call right at 7 months you will find a good bit to choose from.

August actually is not high demand for DVC members due to heat, crowds and hurricanes.

Peak times for Disney does not mean peak time for DVC members. Members go when points are low, heat is low, crowds are low and they try very hard to avoid the Free Dining periods.

Peak times for members are early December, Food and Wine months, and special holidays.

Or you can do split stays!!!

On our upcoming trip in August 2011 (we will be resort hopping with an infant; that would be challenging).

Nights 1 - 3, SSR Treehouse Villas
Nights 4 - 6, Old Key West, Grand Villas (non-HH)
Nights 7 - 9, Broadwalk Villas, two bedroom broadwalk view

Definately book your home resort at 11 months. If possible you should always do this, then try to change at 7 months.

I would go for something in the EPCOT Area. It it great to have access to two parks and the entire area is wonderful. :thumbsup2

Good luck with your ROFR and happy planning! :goodvibes

Actually, it looks as if you've already summed them all up and made up your mind. Looks like BLT or BWV from what you've written. Actually, there are no bad DVC resorts. Book at your home resort at the 11 month window, and when the 7 month window hits, see what is available that you can change to and go from there. That way, you are guaranteed to get something anyway.

Previous posters have all offered great advice here. Make your ressie at 11months, then switch if you can. The beauty of DVC is - there is something great about ALL the resorts!!

If you can't switch out of SSR - fear not! They have 4 pools - the main pool is awesome with a rock slide, and I think they do movies there at night, too? Another of the smaller pools has a great water play area that your kids would love. And they are currently rehabbing a third pool which will be awesome when completed.

OKW is awesome for the sheer square footage! The biggest 1 bedroom of all the DVC properties with the biggest deck. It actually fits a table and chairs for 4. The other resorts barely fit 2 chairs and an end table.

SAB is great - but your 4 year old might be tough to keep track of. It covers a lot of acreage - you won't be able to just hang out and watch them play. You'll need to be on top of him/her at all times. (Not that you wouldn't at a smaller pool - but you know what I mean.)

Hoping you passed ROFR!
