Hi,

I am thinking of going in 2017 with my family (kids will be 7, 5 and 2). I know it's a long way from now but I want to start planning, start saving, etc.

can you recommend a resort based on the following:
-would be spending most of our time at MK and HS.
-would need easy transportation to the parks (either bus or monorail)
-won't be spending much time at the resort so don't want to spend too much money but want a nice resort with theme

can anyone recommend a resort that would fit this?

Thanks!!!!

Most often I find that the cheapest Deluxe resort is the WL. Quick boat ride from MK which is very convenient when you're spending that much time there. None of the moderate resorts have boat service to the parks - only to Downtown Disney - which should be completed by the time you go! Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter are great moderates.

Since you have five people (I'm assuming a wife) you might want to go for a studio - maybe try renting Disney Vacation Club points. You can stay at a deluxe in a room that sleeps 5 for a fantastic deal. Check Davids DVC Point Rental for more info. These rooms are larger and give everyone a little more space. If you have any specific questions ask away!

Not sure my husband wants to rent points. We were really looking into Disney resorts. I'll check out those that you mentioned! Thanks!

No problem. I've never rented - but I've heard nothing but good things. Can end up saving you 50% or more for a larger room at a deluxe resort. When you have that many people going space matters!

Check out CBR; their rooms are newly renovated and can now sleep 5 (although your 2 year old doesn't count in the occupancy limit). We haven't stayed there yet (going in September!), but we chose it because there is more space than a value room and the pool looks awesome, especially the little kids' area. There is no monorail or boat, but the bus rides are pretty reasonable (8 minutes to HS and Epcot, 20ish to MK, 10 to AK, if I recall correctly). We ended up getting free dining, but we would have been happy staying there without any discounts!

My suggestion would be the WL. It's a great deluxe resort that is quite a bit cheaper than the monorail resorts, but is convenient to MK via boat or bus (bus is direct with no stops). You can also take the boat to the CR where you can hop on the monorail and visit the Poly and GF. You would need to take a bus to DHS, but we have always found the buses at the WL to be great. Another choice would be the CR in the garden wing. The rooms are large and spacious (larger than rooms at the WL), but they are cheaper than the GF, Poly, and CR tower rooms.

Start by checking David's DVC Rentals, then browse the DVC Rental forum on this Board. David's will charge you a premium but they take a little of the bother/worry out of agreeing to a contract with another individual.

Budget is everything. From what you describe, it sounds like you want to stay at a Monorail Resort. The Poly is by far our favorite and is one you should seriously consider. Starting to save now is a great idea. We start saving several years prior to each trip. We put absolutely everything on our Disney Visa card, including many of my parents bills. Also, you time payment of your package on your Disney Visa card to where you have 90 days with no interest, and your final payment is not made until you actually get back from your trip.

Thanks! The Poly looks so nice! I will def consider that one. And staying at a Monorail Resort would be great!

well you are picking two parks that are not close to get other. Now if you picked Epcot and MK - no problems any of the monorail resorts would work great

or you picked Epcot and DHS - then great any of the Epcot resorts would work.

so where are you going to send the MAJORITY of your time - if MK then monorail (CR/BLT, Poly/PVB, GF, GFV) or wl/vwl - if Studios (DHS) - would go with BWI/V - or Swan

both CR/BLT and BWI/V are within walking distance of your parks - CR/BLT walking distance to the MK, BWI/V (especially the Villas) are within walking distance to Studios

there is not one resort with quick access to both of your choices.

If you are spending most of your time at the parks, I would not pay more to stay at a deluxe resort just to save a little bit of time on transportation. Do you really want to spend $100-$300 more per night on a room and resort that you are not going to be at much?

Majority of time will def be MK! Thanks!

Yea, I get what you are saying and I agree I guess I should be looking at value resorts then? How is AoA family suite? Seems spacious for a family of 5.

then I would go with CR - you can rent a reservation (points) for BLT - but your family is too large for a studio - so you would have to go with a 1-bedroom (which are super nice). Now renting points is nice but you don't get housekeeping or anything free that WDW is giving away to get you to stay at their resorts.

both the Polyn and GF also have dvc parts.

You may get sticker shock, but the AOA suites are just as expensive as some of the deluxes.
