Which resort with a scooter?

Our next trip we are taking my cousin and her family along to Disney. Their oldest son will be 13 and has Muscular Dystrophy. He is still able to walk in small bits and transfer easily. He cannot however do any stairs. He will mostly be using his scooter or stroller/wheelchair he has. This is not something we normally think about when choosing a resort. Those of you who do have to think about this, which DVC resorts are most accessible for people with disabilities?

From pushing a stroller, the EPCOT resorts let you roll onto a boat to EPCOT and DHS..and if you had the time and hoppers you could scoot through EPCOT and monorail to MK

BLT let's you monorail or walk to MK, and monorail to EPCOT

So those would require the fewest, time comsuming bus loading

I used a scooter for the first time in April and my stay was at BWV. It worked out well for me, since it was primarily a trip for the F&G show!

Did you find it easy to get around the resort? Did you have any issues there? We were leaning towards BWV because he could scoot or boat to both HS and EP. I just don't have the perspective needed to make a choic and they have never been to Disney. I may think one would be good, but there may be things I wouldn't notice that could be problems.

I have only used an ECV at OKW, and it was super easy. Once we had a first floor unit, and once we had an elevator building. Just make sure the resort knows you need that kind of access when you book.

The advantage at OKW is the extra large space and ease of getting around in the unit with a wheelchair.

As for the other resorts, the access will be good, since all the others have elevators, BUT...the tight quarters in some and myriad of doors make moving a scooter or wheelchair inside an issue.

Thank you! This is exactly what I'm looking for. I don't think of things like inside the rooms. I was thinking convenience around the resort, but the inside of the rooms would be just as important.

Don't stay at animal kingdom it is super in convient with a scooter. To eat if you don't get jambo house you have to take a shuttle which is a pain getting on and off every time you want to eat. Do anywhere else but there.

We've stayed at OKW, BWV, VWL, AKV-Jambo, SSR and BCV all with scooters or wheelchairs. For the most part they are all very similar as far as access. If there is a particular park that you will spend the most time at then you may want to stay at a resort close by that will allow walking to that park.

OKW and SSR are the most spread out because of their design and for that reason I'd personally choose one of the hotel connected DVC's.

When it gets to a room request I always made it close to elevator. Pushing a manual wheelchair over long carpeted halls is not the easiest thing. If he is a using a scooter then it doesn't matter as much.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I think I will try to get into BWV at 7 months as our 1st choice. I hope to make their trip as easy and relaxing for them as possible, while sharing as much Disney Magic as we can

I didn't use the scooter in the villa, but I do think the location and ease of getting on off the boats was worth a lot!
