Which resort options do we hae for this size group?

Disney*Dreamer,

Some thoughts to consider or points to make your case for staying on site...

Did you mention how you're getting there... driving or flying?

If flying, you will definitely need 2 rental cars and that adds $$ to the cost factor, and even if you are driving your own cars, you will have to pay for parking. (Many off-site accommodations advertise transportation to and from the parks, but be sure and check the schedules before booking... as sometimes there is only 1 or 2 drop-off/pick-up times.

  • Do you have a discount rate or code... AAA, Disney offer, etc?
  • Do you want or did they add on the trip insurance?
  • The family suites price out slightly higher than 2 rooms.
  • Can you travel during a cheaper "season" for lower rates?
  • Would you or your in-laws want the dining plan?
  • Do you usually take advantage of the extra park hours for Disney guest?

We are thinking of taking a vacation next summer with my sister-in-law and her family. It would be their first trip. Anyway, I am not sure what resort options that we have. Here is who is going:

Me, Dh, Ds(5) and DD(2)

Also

Mother-in-Law

and

Sister-in-law
Her dh
Her Ds (11)
Her DS (8)
Her DS (4)

So what are our options as far as resorts go? Mother in Law will not be paying her way, we will be splitting that, so we don't really want to get her a seperate room. We would love to get everyone in 2 rooms or even one if possible. I just don't know what is best. So I thought I would get advice here before calling for prices. Thanks!

Depending on your budget. I would book three (3) rooms. Two (2) of the rooms would be requested connected. Your family can stay in one room, your sister-in-law, and two(2) of her kids with the Mother-in-law and the other two (2) kids could stay in the other connecting rooms. This would give you some space to stretch out in, but most important, three (3) bathrooms. Hope you have a great time.:thumbsup2 Also, if you do get connecting rooms, the sister-in-law and the mother-in-law could share a room, have separate beds and use of the bathrooms. The connecting room could keep the door open, and the kids could have a room of their own.

We are driving, so this isn't a concern, but good point for someone who is flying!

Nope, no codes, still looking though.

Trip Insurance, no, I had them take that off

Cheeper Season, no, can't do that, sister is a Principle, so she only has 2 weeks off, and only during her summer break

No dining plan, though I wish.

Yes, I do use the extra magic hours, another reason I want to stay on-site.

Well I have been on the phone all morning, here is what I have come up with. For the Grand Gatherings at AS Music 1 standard room and 1 family suite and tickets for everyone it comes to 4890.82

Also, I have found a nice vacation home through Villa's Direct, with 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms and all of our tickets for 3387.25

That is a huge difference so I am not sure there is even any argument that I can make to get everyone to agree to stay onsite. The difference is 1503.57.

Did you factor in any car rentals, parking fees, etc? I'd do just about anything to justify staying on-site. ;) Also, depending on when you plan on going, you may get a discount on your rooms. We have often traveled with our family of in-laws and the ease of Disney transportation, splitting up at will and being able to go back to your room for naps is worth a considerable amount of money to us.

Well we don't have car rentals to worry about and I did try the adding in the parking fees. I tried all the arguments, and DH and his sis decided that we are staying in a house. Oh well, I am not going to let it ruin my trip, though all I can think right now is, no extra magic hours, no dining plan. But, hey, I am going to Disney, so that is better than not going to Disney!
