I am looking at going back to Disneyland in Aug! And I want to stay at Grand California or the Disneyland hotel, but not sure which is better to stay at? I have stayed a several good neighbors and at Paradise pier.

I have only stayed at the GCH, but I think determining which one is worth it is going to depend on what you are looking for. When we go, it is usually just my DH and myself, and we prefer the closeness to the park, the room and hotel décor and overall ambience of the GCH to the others. We don't mind the room size (some say they are too small), we love the balconies, and we have been fortunate to be able to stay in the park/pool view rooms both times so sitting up for a bit outside when we get back is for us the perfect way to relax before bed. Pools aren't important to us, we take a occasional dip and that's about it but others may find they have a preference of one pool or another. We also like that if we get totally soaked on Grizzly River, we can pop back to our room and change if needed (or at the end of the night make it out last ride and then we are steps away from our room)

That said, I think next time (after this Aug, cause we are staying at the GCH for a third time) we will try the DLH to be able to try a different experience. I really want to play with the light up headboards and be surrounded by a little more of a traditionally Disney environment, and be closer to my room after overeating at Steakhouse 55! :goodvibes

So, ultimately it will come down to what you are looking for in a hotel, but I don't think you will go wrong either way.... you'll be at DISNEYLAND!!!!!!! :maleficen

I think it depends on yout personal taste. my family likes the DLH better because we enjoy the tropical feel. The bedrooms are very disney with hidden mickeys, nostalgic pictures, and of course the magical headboards. We love the slides and pool area, and love sporadically running into characters like goofy in the common areas. I find the GC rooms to be too dark, and the craftsmen decor is not my style.

I did not cast a vote.
I have been to both. More stays at the GCH than the DLH.
I like the DLH when the pool will be used during the trip. But I don't like the distance to the parks. Even though we use the Monorail, it's additional steps to and from.
I like the GCH for the closeness to the parks. Room size isn't an issue for me. I like the bathroom set-up of the GCH.

The cost will determine which one we choose when staying on-site. It also depends on how many I'm taking to DLR.
