Which resort is the cleanest/best maintained?

DH and I (who am I kidding, really it's all me :lmao:) are planning our first trip to WDW. I am a little OCD about cleanliness anyway, but I've really gotten paranoid since having kids. Now, before I get lectured about how germs make our immune systems strong, etc. let me just say that I took microbiology in college so I am well aware of the facts. However, that does mean I don't get skeeved out by what I *perceive* to be dirty or germy! So, there is my psychosis! (BTW, I say this all a bit tongue-in-cheek, it hasn't actually prevented me from going anywhere or doing anything).

Now, onto my question. Are all the resorts maintained to the same standard? Are any of them cleaner than others? Are the deluxe resorts cleaner than the moderates/values (I'm guessing not)? Which ones are newer and/or more recently refurbished? Which ones have furnishings which are a bit worn out, thus contributing to a dingy look? Am I crazy??? Okay, don't answer that last one, but I appreciate any and all answers DISers might have to my other questions!

You will get a million different answers. Mine is it probably depends on the day and the support staff at the different resorts. There is no resort that is any cleaner or any dirtier than the others.
I've seen pictures with disgusting mold at the GF and Poly. Not too long ago I read about a roach problem at AKL. People have complained of bedbugs at some of the resorts as well. We've stayed at the mods, deluxes, DVC, and the Swan and Dolphin and have never experienced any of the problems mentioned. Of course, we're not looking real hard either. :)

My family and I have stayed at the resorts many times..............ohh........about 100 or so total nights.

NEVER had anything but a perfect room. Its is certantly something not to worry about as a call to the desk almost always makes things right fast!

When you take into acoount the 1,000's and 1,000,s of rooms WDW has there are very few compliams and most of those folks to there credit honestly admit they are picky.........yet every now and then there is a problem!

AKK

I completely relate - it's my "issue" too! :) That being said - we've had really clean All Star rooms, when we stayed at the POR we probably should have called because while it wasn't "filthy" it wasn't super clean either. This last trip we stayed at the YC and it was great but they have white comforters and both had stains on them which admitedly freaked me out a bit! :teeth: We don't use the comforters anyway so it wasn't the end of the world. The rest of the room/bathroom was so clean that we are going back in January and picked the YC again. :) Trip Advisor rated the YC high as well which is another place I look.

We had great rooms at both POP and GF and an ok room at POFQ. I think it depends on the staff cleaning your room.

If it makes you feel better, bring a pack of Lysol wipes and first thing just wipe down all the surfaces that your kids may touch. Don't forget to wipe down the remote, telephone and door handles. Bring flip flops to wear around the room rather than walking on the bare floor.

I would say OKW is the cleanest and best maintained. It appears to be very well managed and we have had very few issues in 10+ stays

Exactly.

It would be impossible to say "this one is the cleanest". It might be the cleanest a certain poster has experienced, but another poster might have stayed two rooms down the same week with a different housekeeper and had a totally different experience.

We have done 13 trips to WDW. Many of those trips were split stays. We have stayed at all levels of resorts. We have had very well maintained rooms that were clean when we checked in and kept that way for the duration of our stay all trips but one time.

All our rooms at WDW have been cleaner than the average hotels we have stayed in on other vacations.

I agree, take some lysol wipes and if you have any problems, go to the front desk and talk to a manager. Do not call houskeeping from your in room phone, that only puts you to a call center, not housekeeping in your resort. Face to face explanation with a live cm will get you way better resolution.

I'll also add resorts that have been recently refurbbed help. They may not be cleaner, but they are fresher and newer looking.

The ones I know of offhan are: All Star Sports, All Star Music, Pop Century (its refurb is ongoing but should be done soon), Caribbean Beach, Coronoado Springs and the Contemporary. Old Key West is getting refurbbed right now, not sure how long it will be before all rooms are completed. I know there are others that have been recently redone.

And no, deluxe's are not better maintained. In fact, my only "problem" was at a deluxe.

I relate and thought you were very funny about it in you post :-)

I think other PP are right on by saying that there really isn't a cleaner place - it is completely dependent on who is cleaning your room that day.

We stayed CL at YC last Dec and our room was dirty when we checked in (pee running down the front of the toilet, hair on the sheets and I'll just leave it at that cuz the other thing I found would really gross you out, as it did me) - anyway, we stayed there the year prior and had a spotless room. They came up and took care of everything.

The rooms had just been renovated, so that obviously didn't make a difference.

We've stayed in quite a few WDW resorts and you might find our CLEANEST, freshest room to be a surprise, since it gets slammed so much but it was at.............

Port Orleans Riverside!
Hands down!

The newest would be bay lake towers. I'm a bit crazy when it comes to cleanliness. I tend to stay at deluxe resorts because I just "feel" better, I'm sure you can understand what I mean.

For me personally, I'd have to say Wilderness Lodge was probably the cleanest and most well-maintained, of all the resorts I've stayed. It's definitely not my favorite resort, but I did think it seemed clean and well-maintained.

CSR and CBR seemed like they were also pretty well taken care of.

I like POFQ but think it's starting to get a bit run-down. And I really thought their food court area wasn't all that clean.

The Poly was clean, but is the oldest resort, and the decor is dark, but I still love the Poly.

Point in case - this was by far the dirtiest WDW resort we have stayed at - even the housekeepers (it took two) that came in to reclean could not believe how filthy the room was. They were fully booked (spring break) so they couldn't move us.

Thank goodness we only had to stay here two nights and would NEVER stay here again.

I don't have experience at resorts other than POP, but the 3 times I've been there I've had perfectly clean rooms (except for a little extreme dust in '08). I really like that about Disney, before going into the room, you know you can expect a clean room. I can't say that about other hotels I've stayed at :scared1:

I actually had blood all over my pillowcase upon checkin and cobwebs in the room. No joke

I used to spend so many nights in hotels (100+ a year)that I just clean my own rooms. Take a pack of disinfecting wipes with you and travel size lysol. I have stayed at every level and only been really happy at CR. I have only been unhappy 1x (ASMO) but I also travel all the time for work, so I am used to it. The Disney hotels are as clean as other mid level hotels (Holiday Inn/ Fairfield) in my opinion.
I always wipe everything down upon arrival. I also never use the bed spread, get a blanket, they wash those more.

For us the cleanest was Saratoga Springs. It was immaculate and the room was not run down at all.

My Uncle goes to Disney World atleast 2 times a year & has been going for the past 15 or so years.

We have talked about this & he said it completely varies. How clean/tidy your room is depends on the individual Mousekeeper(s). He does seem to find the Beach Club Resort gets the best reviews & does seem to be very clean/tidy. The older Resorts will be alot harder to maintain so you will find little problems like mold & chipped furniture cause they just need a refurb.

Some people have said the 'Value' Resorts Mousekeepers are a little bit more slack & seem to not be so fussed like Mousekeepers would be at a 'Deluxe' Resort.

& some people unfortunately have bad experience's but it doesn't mean the whole Hotel is the same, just the room. People can be very picky & judgemental, but i get that if they've spent alot of money.

All you can do is look on Review website's & see if you come across any pattern's.

(All this info has come from my Uncle) :) xx

You are right about the different answers. We stayed at AKL and our room was spotless, and we never saw a roach or any other bug for that matter in the resort. (outside, of course...it's Florida!)

I agree with what several others have said, it all depends on the cleaning staff you get that day. It's not like Disney has a list that shows which resorts have to be cleaned well and those that can be just a little bit dirty, you know?

And here's something that in my almost 10 years of being on the DIS that I just do not get. People get into their room and find that the cleaning staff did a sub-standard job, but instead of saying something to the front desk, they just suffer all week and whine about it here. Who knows why the room wasn't cleaned well- maybe the maid was just having an off day (don't we all sometimes?) But it's not like the managers go from room to room and check, so if you don't speak up they won't know.
