Animal Kingdom villas or Key West? Those are the only two resorts open that we can choose from.

These being two of my favorite resorts, I'm inclined to think AKL has the better transportation mostly because it has fewer bus stops--that trip around OKW can drag on forever sometimes.

There are several factors to consider, but I think either choice will be a good one. They're also two of our favorite resorts.

AKV- Buses returning from the parks stop at Kidani Village first, then Jambo House. So, going to the parks would mean picking up at Kidani then Jambo. DTD buses have the opposite pattern.
Many people complain how far AKL is from everything, but I don't know what they mean by "everything". It's farthest from MK, but a bus ride from MK to Kidani Village is only 18 minutes.

OKW- It depends on which bus stop you use. Hospitality House is the last stop after Peninsular, South Point, Turtle Pond & Miller's Road. So, if you're leaving from HH, you'll miss having to make the loop.
There's also boat transportation to DTD and you can transfer to a SSR boat from there.

We are OKW lovers and Kidani likers. While I have no problem at all w/ the transportation at OKW, I think Kidani is better simply because there are only two stops.

It would be pretty close comparing Jambo with OKW near Hospitality House (which is a category you can guarantee).

I actually think the transportation is pretty equal between AKL and OKW. We do find we get places a bit faster when we stay at OKW, but the bus service frequency is about equal.

Order of stops within AKL/AKV is based on where the bus is going to once it leaves AKL/AKV, not where the bus is coming from.
Buses headed to a Theme Park stop a KV, JH, then on to the Theme Park.
Buses headed to DTD stop at JH, KV, then on to DTD.

At OKW if you can't get HH and want to minimize walking, request Peninsular Road. It is the 1st stop coming back from the parks, plus you can walk to HH in a minute or two and hop on the buses as they leave the resort.

Transportation is good at either.

There is no resort at Disney with perfect transportation, they all have cons and pros, so I really never let that be a determining factor in choosing a resort.
