Hi-
My family & I have traveled to WDW several times over the past 11 years. This time, however, I am taking my oldest daughter for a "Mom & Me" week at WDW. We'll most likely go in early to mid-January, though there is still a possibility that we'll wait and go during her spring break from college.

We've stayed at Port Orleans/Dixie Landing in the past. Do you have any recommendations of where to stay this time around? We don't plan to spend a lot of time in the room, but know that we do want to be on the grounds. Since January could be cooler, the pool might not be the most important feature.

As far as cost goes, I think we'd prefer to stick to a moderate priced resort. However, if we travel in January would we possibly get a good deal at a nicer resort?

We're just starting to plan this trip, so any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks much!

well, I always traveled with my daughter...who at that time was anywhere from 17-upward....we always stayed in the Epcot area, being there was more to choose to do...we could walk over to ''swan & Dolphin...the boardwalk...and the parks all being close. we have stayed at all the resorts there from the Swan to the YB BC, and the Villas. I would even go for the CBR being it is near Epcot.

Disneyworld!
Which of the resorts you mentioned did you & your daughter like the best? Thanks for your reply!

my fav is the YC my daughters is the BC...but I just did a solo at the BC. I to found I completely enjoyed...mostly due to the view, the room was huge and I found the quite pool!!!!!!! that was great.no one there!

there is so much to do on the boardwalk...that is why I always geared our trips there. if DD wanted to walk around, have some space. this ws great!
and there is a 24 hr resturant at the S&D

I have posted a thread with photos from my room if you wnat to see the BC!

DD (26) and I have taken two trips together. First time we stayed at the Contemporary and the second time we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. The WL was our favorite. We just loved the atmosphere of the whole resort. We are hoping to go again in January and will probably stay there again or at the Swan.

I took my dd for her 18th birthday last yr And we stayed at AKL , It was so nice and we are a family of 6 and we this was our mother daughter trip , we always get 2 rooms at POR with the family and i felt really safe at akl by ourselves and the cm's were great..
Have fun!!

My 19 year old daughter and I will be at the WL this July. We have also stayed at CBR, we bothed liked the Island themeing. Doesn;t matter where you stay, just enjoy the quality time between you and your daughter. College is over so quickly and them "poof" they are off on their own.

I would suggest that you log onto the Allears.net website. We were going to stay at the Dolphin this June until we got a great deal at the Contemporary. We liked the location of the CR since we have smaller children. The deal at the Swan and Dolphin was almost half of their usual price with the Allears.net discount. You don't have to be a member of anything, it is just a website that tells you all about the resorts and menus and planning. When you go to the website it will tell you all the discounts they have going and how long it will last. I know the discount for the SandD is suppose to go through the end of 2005. I love the S and D because you can walk to Epcot and MGM or take a boat. The restaurant choices are endless and the pool is very nice.

Mom(54) and I (23) went last fall and we did a split stay at CBR and AKL. It was fabulous. We both fell in love with the AKL.

I'd say stay at a resort with a day spa so you can maybe do a facial! You deserve it!

I agree with Harambe -- some time at a spa could really make for a nice mother/daughter trip. Maybe you could get a good rate at GF or maybe try SSR.

If you both like Epcot, I would do one of the deluxe Epcot resorts - YC/BC, Boardwalk. Nothing beats being able to walk to and from the World Showcase, especially after Illuminations.

Debbie B-
Do you know which of those resorts would have the best rates?

Thanks!

hi...I am not Debbie, but I do know the answer! the rates at these resorts are all the same, give or take a dollar or two. I have had a standard booked at BWI and changed over to the YC or BC, most of the time same, once or twice there had been a few dollar difference(which I found odd)

The Swan & Dolphin often offer rates of $169 a night with the Allearsnet.com codes. They are our favorites resorts for service, amenities & location. For the few dollars more per night than a moderate, you get top-notch service & accomodations.

I would highly recommend either of them.

Thanks -
Any good reasons to choose the YC/BC/Boardwalk OVER the Swan and/or Dolphin???

well, for ME it is the total Disney exeriance, with all the disney perks...the soaps, the mousekeeping, but now for me....the Magical express, free transportation to the resort that Disney has going on. I just used it and had an excellent experiance with it! also when shopping they have the "shipping packages to resorts" that S & D do not......now if this does not matter to you...S & D has great rates!!

What's the magical express? Wow - I've been gone too long. I used to be on top of all of this!

the magical express started May 5th. it is free transportaion from the airport to your resort! they are brand new buses(beautiful) they send you tags for your luggage and you do not see your luggage again after you check into the airport...when you arrive in MCO your luggage is pulled by Disney and they take it to your resort...it will be waiting for you in your room! and the same for the return! if you fly one of the airlines...AA, Delta, united...you can do your boarding ticket from the resort on return flight! it is excellent!.and all free :goodvibes

Wow, wow and WOW! I hadn't heard about that. Transportation was next on my agenda after figuring out the hotel and park tickets. I don't see much of a need to rent a car, so was figuring we'd take Mears, a limo or... This sounds fantastic.

Is it just offered for the deluxe resorts? And, from your post, I assume it isn't included with the Swan or Dolphin... Do you tip the driver or any other hidden charges? It sounds too good to be true!
