I'm looking for a mod. for my first on property stay. The cast is me :tigger: 31 and dgf princess: 32. I don't plan on spending much time at the resort so I don't really need any of the "extras" just something that has a quite and romantic feel to it. Good transportation system would be a big plus. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend Port Orleans French Quarter. It is the smallest of the moderates and although I haven't stayed there for several years, at the time the transportation was good. We especially enjoyed the boat ride from the resort to Downtown Disney. To me it is the most romantic of the moderates.

I would suggest the CSR or the POFQ. We will be staying at the CSR for the 7th time in September. It is a very quiet, romantic resort in our opinion (we will be there for our 25th wedding anniversary and love walking around the grounds late at night with the lights reflecting off the Lake and the lights around all the fountains. We've never used the bus system (we rent a car), but the CSR has their own buses--they don't share with any of the other resorts. There are also quiet pools in each section. It is a large resort with a lot of walking, but you can always hop on one of the golf carts that drives around the grounds. We have never stayed at hte POFQ, but we have visited and it is a lovely resort (we prefer it over the POR).

Hi,
All of the moderates are set up the same the diff. between them is their theming and POR/POFQ also has the boat to DTD in addition to the bus. All moderates have multiple bus stops and are set up like motels doors and are very spread out so it comes down to what theming you perfer.

I guess it depends when you're going as I originally thought I'd book Caribbean Beach when I found out they were renovating their pools during my stay (May 2008) so I changed to PORiverside instead.

good luck with your decision!

POFQ is the most romantic of them all. Horse drawn carriages strolling about. Iron fountains babling away. Lush Magnolia trees. Jazz music playing all around. Strolling along the river bank. Boat service to DTD. What more could you want?

Just a thought though....if you're not intending to spend any time there why not stay at a value? Spend the extra money on some fab dinners.

Ditto this. On our first anniversary, DH and I stayed at the mansions at POR (which are very similar to POFQ, IMO) and we loved it. Having the boat to DTD was great! We went to Pleasure Island a few times and it was really nice way to end the evening.

I love POFQ. It really has the "Big Easy" feel. I like the smallness of it, so everything is close. I really like the food court, too.

I would choose CSR. They have more to do for a young couple. CSR has three lounges, one at the pool, one by the lake and one in the main building that offers dancing and live entertainment. The food is much more upscale and they offer a sit down restaurant which POFQ does not.

You won't find better bus service than at CSR either. Quick rides to all the parks and the buses are rarely crowded.

CSR also has a spa so you can get a couples massage.

Definitely CSR! It has so much more to offer, is very romantic with the sandy beaches and hammocks and has some adult activities like the spa, fitness center, full menu room service, and 3 lounges.

Because you mentioned that transportation was important to you, I picked CSR. As it is a convention resort, many people staying there do not use the busses, so you have a better chance of being able to sit down every time you ride. It is also a very large resort, so the guests are not all right on top of each other, and won't be very noisey.

I've been leaning towards pofq, but the evening pictures of csr are really making it hard. Thanks for all the great responses.

I also picked CSR. We loved it there ... since it is a convention hotel there seems to be an overall more "adult" feel (though we went with children and also loved it).

Quick transporation is a priority for our family too, but I can't answer your poll directly for several reasons.

All things considered, my favorite mod is probably CSR, but it is not be the best for transporation.

Second, it depends what you mean by 'best transportation.' An important variable is the time of day you plan to go back/forth between the parks.

If you go strictly at peak times, then I think POFQ is probably the best mod. If you go in the middle of the day, then I think it's a complete toss up. Most of the mods are quite large and mid-day the buses will loop around the whole resort. So even if the bus doesn't get full - it takes a while. POFQ's bus makes the loop around POR - so that's one of the WORST transits. Once you finally depart the resort, POR the closest mod to MK, but overall they are all about the same if you plan to hit all four parks over your visit. (Over the week the differences will average out).
Both POR and POFQ have a boat to DTD. If you like variety, then those resorts are the best because otherwise all other transportation from mods is via bus.
The only time buses don't loop around the whole resort is sometimes during peak transporations times ( around 8:30am, dinner, park close). At POFQ, the bus gets full and heads to the park directly during peak times of the year, or it may stop only at the main bus stop of POR. (Later in the day though it may loop POR to let people off the bus, even if it's full)

If getting to the parks quickly is your MAIN priority, I'd suggest a value resort. They actually have faster buses. If you are going during a non peak time (not a school vacation week), then I would say Pop has the fastest transportation - so long as you don't mind full buses (otherwise the ALL Stars). The resort is so large that buses are pretty much continuous all day from Pop. The only time this is a problem is getting back from a park at park closing. The Pop century buses ONLY stop at the main bus stop - no other stops or resorts - so they are very fast. Teh All Stars are a close second. There is enough demand at all of them to keep continuous busing all day (most WDW resorts have 30 minute intervals mid-day). At All-Stars, you have the option of getting off at any of the three stops, and it's pretty easy to walk between resorts. ASMu is the middle resort.

Another important tip - at the mods there are no bus queues. The bus stops are covered, but they are kind of a mob scene sometimes. The main stop is the most crowded, but also the first stop (after that, at the big mods the bus is usually full during peak coming/going times). Sometimes the most agressive folks board ahead of those who waited the longest. At the vlaues, you LINE up at the ONE resort bus stop, so getting on a bus is much more orderly - at least at peak times, but the stops aren't covered and there aren't any benches in the queue like there are at the covered bus stops.

One last thing to consider - is not JUST the buses - but how much TIME you spend WALKING within the resort. Most folks eat breakfast at their resort most days - and/or take their resort's main bus stop during peak times. If minimal walking is a priority to you (again, thinking speed) consider a preferred room location or POFQ. Personally, we found a first floor preferred room at Pop to be the best in the mod/value category. Otherwise, you can lose a LOt of time walking across the resort. Say if you decide to go back the your room after breakfast- - just to drop something off or grab a jacket - it may well cost 25 minutes at the bigger mods.
You may also qualify for a discounted room at the Swan. The Swan is close to both Epcot/MGM, has deluxe accomodations, and at $199, is not THAT much more that a moderate. You can't get the dining plan or ME at the Swan, but if you already planned on a car and meals oop, then it's a great choice. It's fast to Epcot and MGM, and the buses to MK or AK most of the day only stop at the Dolphin AFTER that go to the Swan (so you get a seat, the Doplhin folks don't.)

That's why CSR has the best service. Because its a convention resort, the buses are less crowded because the folks attending conventions don't use them. The queue are never as corwded as other resort stops I've seen or experienced. Driving to all the stops is very quick as well. And the fact that CSR is located close to AK, MGM and Epcot helps too.

CSR! The transportation there is the best bar none!! The majority of people there are attending conferences and such so the buses are always great!!
Rode many empty buses there my last trip! :woohoo:

POFQ is the most romantic in my opinion. Also since its smaller, it's quieter and has all the walkways as "streets" with the horse drawn carriages.
