Which resort do you like better OKW or SSR?

I like SSR better than OKW. I like the pool at Congress Park with it's view of DTD very much, even better than it's main pool, which is very nice indeed.

I do not like that OKW has elevators in only 3 buildings, and I hate having to wait to check in to find out if my request for "first floor or elevator building" has been met. I do not climb down steps very well at all. Now I admit to being excited about having a treehouse booked with my family later this month and there are steps, but the treehouse experience itself is something my whole family is anticipating with pleasure!

I like OKW's point charts. It's just mho, but I think the spaciousness of the villas is over rated as an incentive to book there.

I've stayed at both, neither is my absolute favorite. If only OKW and SSR were DVC, SSR would be my choice for most trips.

I've never stayed at either, but I just have to ask...is anyone besides me shocked at the results of this poll? I have visited SSR and thought the decor of the villas was really pretty. The pool area looked nice, too. Granted, I've only seen pictures of the villas at OKW, but I just would've thought SSR would be considered a little nicer. Maybe I need to check out OKW sometime in person.

I don't think most peoples opinion are based on decor, but more the fact that OKW has the largest villas of any DVC and a cheaper point chart. Those two factors alone will sway people to staying there and as I have noted in the past, you will become more comfortable where ever you stay most often.

If you notice, there is a tend that most people enjoy the dining better at SSR and even the grounds get a better review.

We stayed at OKW last week and absolutely loved it. The size of the rooms, the full size w/d, the cheap points, everything about it was great.

I have not stayed in the rooms at SSR but did take my kids over to the High Rock Springs pool one day and thought the resort was GORGEOUS. Really impressive, I don't understand why this place gets such bad reviews on here. The pool was a lot of fun and I honestly thought it was better for small children with the little slide, splash pad and zero entry section. OKW was fun for them too, but those things just put SSR over the top pool wise.

Both resorts have a ferry to DTD, but it's a lot closer from SSR and you can walk from there also.

The point charts at OKW are so great though, if I had to choose between them I would go with OKW based on pt value cause I'm cheap! :thumbsup2

This is a really good point! We requested ground floor and it was granted. We did hear our upstairs neighbors but that didn't bother us nearly as much as hauling all our stuff up 2 flights of stairs would have! DH said he really liked OKW but admitted his impression would have been very different if we were on the 2nd or 3rd floor.

Gotta go with OKW. The larger rooms and relaxed aura of the place just seems to make the stay a little less hectic. It does seem SSR is easier to book on short notice.

Last time we stayed there it was a group of 5 adults and I think we spend more time just chilling at OKW then at the parks. Turn on the ceiling fan for a little breeze, grab a cocktail and sit out on the deck/patio (which is large enough for that many adults, can't do that at SSR) and watch the golfers 'enjoy' their game.

Another vote for OKW! We LOVE:lovestrucOKW probably as much as our home resort BCV. We've stayed there as often. OKW is just so relaxed and laid back.

We have also stayed once in a 2BR at SSR. We were "stuck" out in the dreaded Carousel section. The villa itself was fine but being in Carousel kind of soured us to SSR. We'd stay there again if they could guarantee we wouldn't be in Carousel.

We will return many times to OKW. Love the HH section. Have also stayed in Millers Road and Turtle Pond. We prefer HH due to proximity to the pool, ferry and restaurant.

Do the rooms at SSR have their own personal balconies like most Deluxe resorts do, or is the resort set up like a moderate resort?

Every room that I have had at SSR has had a balcony. It is set-up like the deluxe resorts. The balconies at OKW are larger but, so are the rooms.

I prefer OKW vs. SSR, don't know just something about the outside hallways at SSR make me feel like I'm at a Days Inn. As mentioned OKW has larger rooms and don't forget the 2BR a OKW has two beds in the 'studio' part of the unit vs. 1 bed and sofa sleeper (IIRC) at SSR.

Uh? Doesn't OKW have outside hallways too? I'm pretty sure I saw photos that you enter an OKW villa from an outside hallway.

Yes the entrances are outside but it's not down some long hallway and like at SSR. As I said, it's just how we felt when we stayed there.

I vote for OKW. We own at OKW also and I still think it has much more room and we really enjoy the spaciousness. The fact that the two bedroom units have 2 queen beds, a king bed and sleeper sofas in the LR is a real plus. It means 6 people get real beds and you don't have to do and undo the sofabeds everyday. The kitchen is also very well situated and convenient.

I am going to be different I like SSR better. I would give up the little extra space at OKW for everything at SSR.

I say OKW hands down. I have absolutley no desire to stay at SSR. Doesn't do a thing for me. I know a few posters stated they like being able to see DTD but that is one of the reasons I don't like it. I like OKW because it seems removed from all the hustle and bustle of everything. It is like a world apart. I like the feeling of being close to everything but feeling far away.
