Which resort didnt live up to your expections..

I love staying on Disney property & really liked all the resorts we stayed in except for POR. Nothing terrible & if I got a good AP rate I might go back. I just didn't like the decor. The trundle bed in our room was very dusty being under the bed. The foodcourt was too caotic & took a long time to get food (which was hard when our kids were little then)

My least favorite part of POR was the buses. Here is where Pop has an advantage. There is no line queue at POR. Several times we would be waiting for a bus & along comes a family or 2 that just jump on before us even though we were there before them. We aren't pushy & just let them go but a real bus queue would eliminate this problem. Again, not a dealbreaker & we have limited choices as we are a family of 5 so it possible we may end up there in the future but it's not on my top 10 list.

We were disappointed with POP as well. The rooms were noisy and there were people at the pool that were very noisy until 3 am. Also walking around the beer bottles scattered along the walk way was fun. Especially when your 3 yo wants to pick them up! :scared1: The food court was always crowded and the check out took forever.

   I just like em.

It would be CBR for us. The only reason is that the room was filthy and run down and for $180/night we felt they could do better.

See for me this is where POR has the advantage. I don't want to wait in another line at the bus stop. I like to be able to sit and relax, and you can do that at the moderate resorts. The deluxe resorts too. To me the lack of a queue is a plus.:thumbsup2

Biggest disappointment was GF. Just one of those times when a lot of minor things went wrong and nobody cared. We had booked fours rooms to attend a family wedding. We linked the ressies and asked to be close to one another. After waiting til 5:30 PM to have our rooms ready we found them in 3 separate buildings! No one would move us either- resort was full. Two rooms were supposed to be smoking, but weren't. The front desk gave us an ashtray and said go ahead and smoke. Nice for us - but what about the next folks who thought they were getting a non-smoking room. The pool was dirty, guest parking a hundred miles away, rude cast members in aggressive golf carts... again no catastrophes, just not worth the ridiculously high rate.
Biggest surprise was CBR. First ever stay at a moderate and we absolutely loved it. :lovestruc The walk is not an issue for us because we don't use the food court. We thought housekeeping was great, all the CM's incredibly polite and gracious. Bus service was about what we expect at any Disney resort. Overall a pleasant surprise.

The Polynesian. Great location, nice room size, fun seeing the castle from our resort, but that's about where being impressed ended for us. Too crowded, too many people wandering around, and too....well, I don't want to offend anyone. It just was not for us. At all.

Not a big disappointment, but CR is a little too antiseptic for my tastes.

BC for us. We loved the YC. I think it was just the room we had. It was in need of some work. It felt worn, but we loved our vacation. We can have fun anywhere at Disney. The staff at our Poly LVC stay left much to be desired, but we still loved the Poly and the view and will be going back. I do think it is what you make of it. Poly and YC are my family's favorites.

AKL - we stayed there for 2 nights and the room was dark (very little lighting), we had a horrible view. We were on the top floor and had a view of the cement buildings the animals were housed in. Save very little of the savannah.

FW in the cabins - they were filthy. Looked as though it was never dusted or a vaccum used along the baseboards. I went to the front desk to complain and ask for them to clean it and we ended up having a night taken off our bill.

Wilderness Lodge for us. We stayed in a concierge room for our 25th anniversary--our first and last stay there.

The concierge floor wasn't really set up for concierge so there was no real lounge, the staff had no real desk, and the food was kind of lined up along the wall--great food, by the way, but there was no real space to put it.

We had requested a king room and got a king room that was handicapped accessible. Every time we showered, the whole bathroom got soaked because they didn't have a shower curtain that fit. A request for a shower curtain that was long enough somehow resulted in a repair to the shower tiles. Our balcony overlooked the smokehouse and the dumpsters.

The fast-food place was dreadful. The transportation was so slow it took us an hour to get to the Contemporary by boat--it would have been much faster to walk had there been a walkway. The buses all seemed to also stop at the Floridian and the Polynesian.

Overall, just not for us.

VWL. I had gone there so excited and ready to love it and just didn't. Our 2 br felt small and dark and I did not care for the decor. No view either-- just woods and service area. It was also a hike to the main pool, both inside the building (we were at the end of the hallway we dubbed The Shining Hallway-- it seemed to get longer and longer as you walked down it) and out. Plus the transportation was really bad for us-- the waits were way too long for both the buses and boat launches which led to a feeling of being stuck, so we ended up driving our rental more than we normally would. Anyway, we did a split stay that trip and were glad to get to the Poly. That being said, YMMV.

WL - I just didn't feel the "magic" there. Can't put my finger on any one thing, but it just isn't the resort for me.

AKL about 5 years ago. We were so excited to be staying at this new cool place. We had a savannah view and all.

The lobby was nice...the rooms were very dark....the animals never seemed to be anywhere near our balcony (??) and of course those lovely smells that greet you in the morning....(which were worse than we expected). We were just not that impressed as were neither of our boys. We have no desire to go back unfortunately.

I would say my least favorites are AKL, BW, and Pop Century. My most favorites are WL (love the rustic theme here), and SSR. (SSR just makes me feel like I'm miles away from everything....totally relaxing)

For the record, I have stayed at all Disney hotels except the CBR and the Grand Floridian. :)

great thread by the way....I really like to hear others thoughts on all resorts whether good or bad. :)

We've only stayed at three different resorts; ASMu, POR and POP and honestly our least favorite was ASMu, but even then we didn't "hate" it.

The All Stars are busy...crowded with large tour groups and have no dedicated bus routes but we still had a blast.

We absolutely adored POP! We stayed last year during peak season and experienced none of the issues that have been mentioned. No bus issues...we waited fifteen minutes tops at any given time. It wasn't too nosy...the pools were great...and the food court has to be the best of property! The variety compared to others is tremendous!

As for POR....it's our favorite and where we'll be this year. We never mind the walks...the bus waits while a little longer and nice because they're covered...and the place is just so darn serene!

The Polynesian lived up to my expectations in every possible way, however the price was very high. If I went to Disney World every year, I would probably alternate between a garden view at the Poly and Coronado Springs. Since we only go every other year, I can afford the high price, but what about people who go for a week every year?

We've only stayed at three resorts, and none could be called a disappointment. I would have to say our favorite was All Star Movies. We have small children and there's just nothing like walking out of your room into "Andy's room"! The rooms were always clean, the staff friendly and helpful, and the food court is great. And how can you beat that price!!

Second favorite would be CBR - just such a relaxing atmosphere and gorgeous grounds.

Our least fav would be CSR, mainly because of the food court - just too confusing for me! But, overall, also a great resort.

I don't think we'll ever spring for the $$$ for a deluxe, but I could see where my expectations would be higher if we did pay that.

I wish I could go back right now (it's snowing in Pittsburgh, again :sad2: )

We were disappointed in WL. Might have been better if we had booked something better than a standard view, but at Easter last year it was what was available. We did get to see Wishes from the room, albeit from very far away, and through trees. But the view was of a service area, and there was construction during the day right on our balcony and we had a 5 mo old and a 4 yr old who needed afternoon naps. Workers were literally on our balcony, very loud (and smoking!) They left their coffee cups and cigarette butts for us. The theme was too dark for my taste. The resort grounds, though, are lovely.

We LOVE the Beach Club, Yacht Club, Dolphin/Swan, and Boardwalk. Just love the area and felt more isolated at WL. Thought Contemporary (tower)was great for location and restaurants, liked the bigger rooms. A stay (when it was Dixie Landings) at POR was ok, too, for the price. Room was ok, grounds were very pretty. Buses not too bad. This was right before the name change.

We had a horrible trip to the Contemporary several years ago...filthy, disgusting rooms ( I mean dirty, bloody sheets from previous guests left on the beds:sick: ), rude and apathetic CMs, construction noise and crap everywhere in the hallways:mad: It was like a bad joke. I could not imagine ever returning there.

Fast forward several years and we needed a last minute reservation with good proximity to the MK...we got a great rate for CR and decided to try it again. This time we had a very pleasant stay....rooms were clean (nothing to write home about but certainly acceptable), helpful CMs and the resort looked great.

I think the hit or miss experience happens at all WDW resorts; you'll find people who LOVE a resort and people who absolutely HATE that same resort regardless or location or price category. I think that the deluxes (esp Poly and GF) seem to take a beating because people have such high expectations (and with those prices, who can blame them?) And sometimes it seems the Values are the whipping boys of the masses. Mods seem to fare the best in reviews. Just my .02:) Thanks for this interesting thread idea.:thumbsup2
