Need some advise here.....
We are going to be planning a trip for next year and want to stay at PO Riverside. Due to my husband's rheumatoid arthritis we would like to get a fairly close room that is not a preferred location.
My question is:
In your opinion, would you request a ground floor in building #16 in Alligator Bayou or a ground floor room in Magnolia Bend? Interested in the pros and cons. Thanks in advance for your input! :surfweb:

We liked Magnolia much more than Alligator. The overall 'feel' was better and we also loved the decor. I even think the Magnolia is a bit closer to the main building!!

You could look at Building 14, which is in the preferred catagory, which is right out side the entrance to the food court, and close to the main bus stop.
For alot of great information about POR, try going to portorleans.org
There is a ton of information about rooms, locations, and amenities.

I stayed in AB building 14 and although it was very close to main building and food court, it was also very quiet. While the theme is living in a tin shack in the bayou, it really is just a facade - the rooms were just redone and very modern. The mansions, imho, are breathtaking -- like the true old South -- I stayed in AB because my young niece thought it was cute.

I think 16 ground floor is going to be your best bet of the non-"preferred" buildings. The only concern may be some noise from the road. It is fairly close the the main building and the south bus depot.

Honestly? You should pay for the preferred room location. POR is large, and there is no guarantee you will be placed where you request to be. I've not done well at POR as far as getting my requests met. I've even made general requests (such as a room in the bayou section please!) and not had them met.

If you really need to be close to the main building, paying for that bonus is the way to go.

We requested and got building 16 2 years ago. It is not noisy at all. You don't hear any street noise and it's so lush around the building that you honestly don't even notice the parking lot. We loved this location. It was the best in AB without preferred.

Magnolia Bend is also very close. If it were me, I would think about which is your preferred style. Do you like woodsy and lush landscaping? We loved walking the trails to the food court. Mansions are the opposite...very clean and pretty landscaping with, for a lack of better description...a mansion feel..clean cut and airy...white gazebos.

In my opinion (we stay there at least part of our trip every year) they're both wonderful in their own right. I think both of your choices of location are great so you just need to decide which atmosphere you prefer.

Our last 2 trips, we did not do online check in and I'm glad we didn't. Our requests had not been met BUT by kindly asking, our CM both times worked it out so we could have what we were requesting. We had to wait a little but we didn't care. You'll love POR!:thumbsup2

Thank you so much for your opinions and replies. I appreciate every one of them. Diser's are great!
