Which pins to keep versus those to trade?

A friend of my husbands gave us a bag of Disney pins that his wife collected over the years...she tried to sell them, but didn't have much luck, so decided to just give them to us, because she knew that my daughter and I collected Disney pins.

We are heading to WDW in 23 days, and it is very overwhelming to look these over and decide which would be good for trading...I've always just collected those pins that I personally liked, but she has given us some LE pins, Cast Member pins, Event pins (like Valentines Day of a certain year), and a couple of DVC pins.

Can someone please help us understand which we should definately keep due to value or potential value versus those that would be good traders?

Any advice/help would be appreciated!

Well it's hard to give a value to a pin. What's valuable to me may not be valuable to you. Every trader is different. If you are unsure a good rule of thumb is to trade LEs for LEs etc etc. Keep the LE's etc in small baggies and then if you run into someone trading you can pull them out and have them available.

That's the best course of action. Some people collect the lanyard pins, some Mickey Pins, etc. Cast Member pins can sometimes sell good on ebay but without the pin card you may have a harder time selling them. Just keep what you like and trade the rest.

I have been collecting for 10 years and have gone just about every which way with what to save. Now I just save the ones I like.

You might try to look up the pins at www.pinpics.com and take a look at the ratio between people wanting them and people having them to trade.

A pin with over 100 people wanting and only one or two willing to trade it away has a relatively high value; likewise if many people are willing to trade it away and almost nobody wants it the value would be lower.

These are not clear values but should give an idea of the worth.

Also you can look at closed auctions on eBay to ree what recent sales, if any, have been made. But yoiu may need information from Pinpics as to the name of the pin or other information.

See I only collect Tinkerbell with very very few exceptions. To me, every Tink pin is valuable as opposed to say Chip n Dale or Figment. So I'll gladly give those away but I have a Steamboat Willie pin that I love and is part of my favs. It's what's important to you.
