Which parks?

Planning first trip to DW. have four kids 5-10. Recommendations on which parks and how do you know which ones are under construction?

You really need to do your research and see what is the best for your family. A first Disney trip must is Magic Kingdom and from there it's up to you. Not sure how long you are staying at Disney. There is plenty to do at each Disney park. And if you add Park Hopper to your ticket you can jump around the parks. Disboards is a great place to find all your answers. The #1 advice I can tell you is do ALL your research before you go to Disney, including fastpass+ and ADR (Advanced Dining Reservations)

This is the kind of question you ask over drinks for an evening, not just a quick line in a forum. Where are you planning to stay? What do you like? How many days will you have?

For a one day trip, go to the Magic Kingdom.
For a seven day trip, go to all of the parks.
In between, it depends on how long you are staying and what you want to do. Are you also going to Universal? Sea World? The beach?
As for construction, there is never a time when work stops at WDW. Something is always being built, redesigned or refurbished. Right now, the major construction projects are at Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios, with a major attraction (Soarin') closed at Epcot.
