Which Park (s)

Which park(s) would you suggest. I am getting there at about 11am at the end of August-staying at Grand Californian. I am thinking my husband will take my 7 year old to one of the parks. The next day I, our 4 year old, 7 year old and husband will go to 1 park. Which park is better for just the 7 year old?

Just to make sure I'm understanding it correctly, your DH will take the 7-year to one park on Day 1, the the whole family will go to the other park on Day 2? So you're asking which park would be better for your DH & 7 year old, correct? Which park are you going to on Day 2?

I generally recommend Disneyland for most guests who have not been to either park for a first visits. That being said, it depends a little on what types of things the 7-year old likes to do. Any favorite characters? Types of attractions? Does s/he like shows?

Thank you-the 7 year old and dad will go to a park the day we arrive. she likes thrill rides, and could care less about princesses and/or characters.

So maybe Grand California for the 2 of them, and Disneyland for the 4 of us?

DCA (Disney's California Adventure) has a nice selection of thrill rides (Tower of Terror, Radiator Springs, Screamin', Soarin', Grizzly River Rapids, and Goofy's Sky School), plus some other attractions (TSMM, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, etc.). Disneyland also has a fair number of thrill rides (Star Tours, Space, Matterhorn, Big Thunder, Splash, and Indy). So I think either park would be fine for the 7 year old if she's into thrill rides.

For the younger child, it's worth noting that DL doesn't have a lot of the Frozen stuff. The Anna & Elsa meet & greet, Olaf m&g, and Frozen Sing Along are all in DCA. DL does have a comic re-telling of Frozen at Fantasy Faire (FPs required) and there is the A&E pre-Soundsational parade float, but no chance to meet A&E. That being said, I would still for Disneyland on the day when everyone is going into the parks.

I would suggest that your DH and DD go to DCA the first day and then all of you go to DL the second. That way your DH and DD get to experience both parks and your DD gets to do some of the thrill rides at DCA. I think DL is the true family park and that you will all love it. Have fun!

I would save Disneyland for the day you are all going together, so you you and your hubby can both watch both kids experience it, especially if it is anyone's first time!

In DCA, your older kid will love Radiator Springs Racers, which is awesome at night and in the day. Plus California Screamin and Tower of Terror!

Maybe let the younger kid pick the first ride for the family at Disneyland the next day using a park map that big sis brings back to the hotel!

Have fun planning!

Just a quick word of caution - make sure your little one is going to meet the height requirements before you plan on the big rides with her. California Screamin at DCA, Grizzly River Rapids at DCA and Indiana Jones at Disneyland are both ones that I remember my son wanted to ride, seemed to be mature enough to handle, but didn't meet the height requirement. Here's a link to the official requirements:
