My Mom is not a fan of buffets so we are only doing one this trip.
Which one would you pick for the food and the ease of the buffet setup?
Is cape may a good choice for clams and mussels? Not that fond of crab.
You guys always give great advice!

I'm a HUGE fan of Boma!! HUGE!! It is my all time fav Disney restaurant....I don't care if we never finish trying ALL of them. Forget that it's a buffet. It's the FOOD that is special. It is not the same as any other restaurant. Boma can't be beat IMO and is our one repeat on just almost every trip. Better than Jiko. Better than Sanaa. (The other 2 TS AK restaurants). We really like that all of the food there is really DIFFERENT and that it is NOT something we can get at home. The soups are to die for!!! OMG!! I always have to try a spoonful of each one. Can you tell where my vote is headed?! :rotfl:

We've been to both (several times) and Cape May is our long term, hands down favorite. It is a buffet that truly has something for everyone. (The crab is extra by the way; when they have it).

The shellfish are done nicely, and the other selections are very good too. I really like their chicken!

Boma is very nice as well, but not as nice as it once was. Some of the uniqueness is gone. I'm not a huge fan of cumin and that seems to be used in many of the dishes there.

I'd say you really can't go wrong with either one. Totally different food experiences so select the one that will have the choices that you think your family would most enjoy.

We like Boma better than Cape May. As PP said, foods you can't get anywhere else. However, if all else is equal, Boma can be time consuming to get to, and we have found the buss service after dinner isn't the best. If possible, we drive to our ADR at Boma.

Have never been to Cape May, but my friend loves it. She is a seafood nut. Note that the menu is a rotating one, meaning each night a couple different things are offerred. So if you can find a current menu you can pick which night would suit your mom better.

As for Boma, we didn't like it at all. DH and I can eat pretty much anything and like trying new foods, and it wasn't the fact the foods were bad, just not for us. Boma uses sweet spices like cinnamon, vanilla and fruit flavors in EVERYTHING. The meats are rubbed with it, the side dishes, even the soups were sweet. We felt as if we were eating a holiday dessert for dinner.
So if she isn't into this type of foods she won't be happy.

Good luck and have a great trip!!

Same here. We've tried it at least 3 times ... finally we just said "why do we keep spending our money on this?!?" :lmao:

Cape May for us - out of these 2 choices.

Although my DH would much prefer 'Ohana! ;)

But if your mom likes seafood, sounds like Cape May is the winner.

edited: just re-read your post ... I would also say for us, Boma seemed more difficult of a buffet to 'navigate'. Maybe I'm just not forceful enough. LOL!

We happen to be doing both in a couple weeks so I would say either would be good.

Boma has the more uncoventional menu. Even though Cape May is a "clam bake" there is just as much non-seafood there. The clams and mussels are OK - nothing special IMO.

I would say Boma if you are a little more adventurous otherwise Cape May. Check out the items listed in the menus on allears or wdwinfo.

Have not tried Boma for dinner but breakfast was awful. As for Cape may we loved it. Always plenty of clams and mussels. The only thing I would recommend ir arriving an hour after they open, the first hour is very hectic as they seat the whole restaurant at once so the lines at the buffet are very long for that first hour.

Haven't been to Boma, but I have been to Cape May. The buffet itself was not that easy to deal with. It is set up in a big rectangle with people going here, there, and everywhere (because of the angles, there is no definite starting place.)

Someone posted that the crab was extra, but it wasn't when we were there in January 2011.

Would I go again? Probably not. I enjoyed Cape May, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there. Maybe I'd go again if we stay at the Beach Club.

We've been Cape May twice. We are seafood / shellfish lovers and our first experience at Cape May was excellent, but the second time made us decide to never go back. We were in the first seating both times. The first time we had no trouble getting to the buffet for seconds and the food was decent. The second time we went, on our first time round some things were not available; it was so hectic that we never were able to get near the buffet for refills; and the food we did get was poorly prepared. We definitely didn't leave full.

We've been to Boma twice. It is at the top of our list of must-do restaurants. The buffet seems to be much more orderly and organized. The variety of food is spectacular. There is familiar food for the non-adventurous, and some African dishes for those who want to try out something new. It is way too easy here to eat too much! And there is a plus in that after dining, you can walk off the meal by going out to the animal viewing area. I think children will enjoy Boma just as much as the adults do.

We've been to both and love them both. Cape May is yummy and the boardwalk area is neat. Boma is also yummy, has some different food, but delish. AKL is nice place to visit too. Gosh...tough decision. Where will you be spending your day? AK...go for Boma. Epcot or HS...go for Cape May.

BOMA hands down! Nothing compares. Cape May is like Red Lobster, it's not great, it's okay. It does have a nice atmosphere food mediocre. BOMA has great food, great atmosphere and great service. It's always ALWAYS consistent! Have fun! Brunette

Me too.

I even have a sweet tooth and really disliked how sweet everything was.

Someone mentioned cumin.... I LOVE cumin and don't remember that being a dominant flavor at all. All I remember is sweet, sweet, sweet.

By the end of the first plate I would have paid extra from some good hot spice. Or even something bland and unspiced if it just wasn't sweet.

Was disappointed because I went in expecting to really enjoy it. Generally enjoy trying other foods from around the world.

Jiko was good, though. :goodvibes

Crab was included in July, as well. I would choose Cape May on a fried shrimp night but would be happy at either restaurant.
