I have used simple Hefty or Glad Ziploc bags and have been able to pack a bunch of things. I know there are cubes, packing folders, compression bags that can roll up and get really flat...

What is your preference? I hate the thought of paying for a checked bag. I am going this July with just myself and my daughter:love: and want the carryon to be efficient.

Love to hear some feedback. Thanks.:yay:

Do they have a weight limit for carry on luggage? I used compression bags which gave me so much room. But I ended up packing way more than I should have and went over the 50 lb limit for checked baggage.

the packing cubes are not airtight- they just keep things together.

Ayup. They are more a way to keep everything organized than to pack more. Instead of having to pull everything out of your bag to find that t-shirt you wanted, you can take the cubes/rectangles out, and then just dig through the one that has all your t-shirts in it.

I do not like the compression bags. First, I tend to overpack with them and they make the bags too heavy. Second, I once got my bag searched at security and it was a pain to try to repack everything right there.

I like the cubes for keeping things organized but I found that I can fit more in the bag if I don't use them.
