Which one, Grand Legacy or Desert Palms?

I have two reservations with similar pricing (Desert Palms is a bit more), I'm trying to decide which one to cancel/keep. I like the indoor entrances at Desert Palms (and this is NOT the Desert Inn) but it looks like it is a longer walk. I would like a safe, well-lit walk back home at night. I'm usually fairly picky about clean rooms/floors and fresh bedding. I hate those polyester bedspreads in some lower level hotels. We usually stay on-site at WDW, but I understand these hotels won't be close to that quality. I've read that the breakfast at Grand Legacy is terrible but we are fine with cereal or fruit. Thanks in advance!

If you are ok with cereal, bagels, or toast for breakfast, then Grand Legacy should be fine for you. I think all of the remodeling is done now. I was there in March and will be there at the end of November. I thought the room I stayed in was super clean and quite nice for the price. Very easy walk, well lit, and plenty of people at all times of the day/night.

I like Desert Palms and reccommend it to my friends who want a nice hotel within walking distance. Free wifi and breakfast was warm and plentiful. I've only stayed in their suite rooms and there was plenty of room for all 5 of us.

The walk isn't bad, but as with all hotels the walk back always feels longer. It's well lit and felt very safe to me. There's a 7-11 right there so real easy to pop in for snacks or drinks.

Just to clarify, are you talking about the Desert Palms on Katella, near Harbor?

This property is a combination of a couple of older Hotels that were combined and majorly remodeled/redesigned years ago.

Not a bad property, hallways are a bit strange, since they combined multiple buildingds into one. Also the pool area is in the center of the property, so tall walls surround all 4 sides of the pool area, which kinda restricts the sunlight.

I would say walking distance (about a mile). Near the CVS and 7-11,plus the Subway across the street

Desert Inn on Harbor is much closer, but the OP wasn't asking about that property.

Can you cancel Desert Palms without penalty? I am asking because a couple days ago I was considering book a room there for March, but the cancellation policy said I would have to pay for my entire booking if I canceled.

I would stay at the grand legacy, it's about half the distance as the other hotel. If you stay at the desert palms, every night when you walk home you will be wishing that you only had to walk as far as the grand legacy.

Thanks for the answers! Yes, I can cancel Desert Palms without a penalty. Thanks very much!

Oh gosh I liked Palms!

Legacy is the former ramada? If so, we hated that place.

Palms is a bit odd in terms of halls and rooms but the breakfast cannot be beat. Mmm, waffles...

I find the walk to be negligible. We've walked further!
