Lottery tickets, a gift card, or a donation made in their name?

Each of these will be $5 worth, as we have at least 9 teachers to purchase for. The lottery tickets would be five scratch off dollar tickets in which the proceeds go to support education. The gift card would be for Starbucks or Ulta (is that offensive, like we think they need beauty enhancement?!). The donation would be either to the local food pantry or to the local no-kill shelter.

Thanks for your opinion! MY DH and I cannot agree, so I will go with whatever you all think is best!:flower3:

I'm a teacher. I don't play the lottery and I have my own ideas about who to give to. I'd like the Starbucks card.

I'd like a Target card even better. That way I could buy something I need with the money and free up 5 bucks for the indulgence of my choice.

I love the idea of a gift card too. In the past I have received gift cards to Kohls, Target, and Starbucks.

There was a survey in Parent's magazine this month as to what Teachers wanted for gifts and gift card was the #1 thing.

Thru elementary school, we would give gift certificates to the local teacher supply store. Teachers in our district usually have to buy many of their own supplies, and the gift card helps.

Gift card. They are a nice treat over the Christmas break.

I'll be getting DD's teacher one for about $25.....would you suggest a restaurant card? I got her a Starbucks for the T'giving break but wanted to do something different for Christmas.

I dont know why its so hard for me to make a decision....I'm a teacher myself for goodness sake!!

Which is why it's so hard for you to decide. You have probably received some great gifts and some not-so-great gifts and want your gift to be something that will bring a smile to the teacher's face.

I think a restaurant gift card would be great. I love when I get those -- although last year I didn't get any holiday gifts period. Some years are like that in special ed. The students come to me for 1/2 the day, so their other teacher probably got the gift. When money is tight, the ancillary teachers are the first to be forgotten.

I don't mind not getting gifts, but at least a card (even hand made on a piece of paper) would have been nice. I say go for a restaurant -- at least $25 for that.

I always do gift cards for teachers, even if it is just $5 to Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts or Blockbuster. My son is in middle school, so we have 7 teachers to buy for and his bus driver. I redeemed reward points for Subway, CVS, and Bath & Body $10 gift cards. His male teachers will get the Subway cards, the ladies will get the others. It costs me nothing out of pocket and I know the gift cards will be used for something the teacher selects for themselves.

I vote GC to somewhere like Subway, Chickfila, Target, Starbucks, Sonic ,or Walmart. Where $5 can buy something you want/need ;)
DD10 can always tell me where her teachers frequent for breakfast  b/c the cups they bring in.

I am happy with a $5 gift card to Mc Donald's to help support my diet coke habit.

Its awesome and great that you could get a bagle and a coffee or Blizzaed from DQ PAID FOR on your way home from school. Believe it or not, $5 will by most of that... or have verty little out of pocket costs!:thumbsup2

Allrighty then! Gift card wins by 100%!

I just hope $5 isn't too cheap. Between all the middle school teachers and extra elementary speech teachers, I also hope to get for both schools' principals.....I would love to buy for the custodians, receptionists, etc. also if I could.....

Funny that you mention that... we go by ChicFliA every once in a while for breakfast on the way to school. Each time, we have run into my DD's Science Teacher. So, he is going to get a CFA calendar and $5 GC. The calendar has monthly coupons for free food..all year long!! ;)

As a teacher myself..I love GC! I truly don't shop for myself at all. I always shop for my own kids, students, family members, etc. The GC are a special way that I can 'treat' myself and not feel guilty doing it. :goodvibes:

Preschool teacher here....love gift cards!

My favorite is Panera, but I appreciate anything. I've received Barnes and Noble, Kohl's, Wegman's, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks, Becker's Teacher Store, Visa gift cards, and LOTS and LOTS of Panera cards!

I will say the $25 is a lot. I always feel like it's way more than needed. Most of the cards I receive are $10 in value.
