Hello-

First trip to Universal...wondering which movies I should have my kids see/rewatch to make the attractions more relevant to them. They are Harry Potter fans, so that is all taken care of; just wondering about the rest of the parks?

Thanks!

We watched Men in Black, ET, Back to the Future, Jurassic Park. Transformers would be good, Despicable Me or Minions also

I agree with all of the above, plus Terminator and Terminator 2 if your kids are old enough for that. Both my boys love the Terminator show. Any Marvel movies, esp Spiderman and Hulk if you can stomach them (some I like, some I don't).

MIB, all the Despicable Me movies, Spider-Man and an X-Men movie. My kids knew practically no one on Superhero Island.

If they are younger, Dr Seuss (Lorax, Horton, etc) and Fievel (playland), movies with animals (Animal Actors...I can't remember which movie animals were there when we went)

The Mummy if they're old enough........

Scooby Doo
Simpsons, again if you feel that's ok age wise
Feivel goes West
Back to the Future
Grinch
Cat in the Hat

Any others you can think of? I was thinking Forest Gump if we were planning to eat at Bubba Gumps, Mel's is from a movie too right? American Graffiti?
I was trying to compile a super complete list.

you never watched Forest Gump??????

It's a great movie and watching it will make you appreciate the restaurant even more.

servers are known to ask the ones they seat questions about the movie.
son and i answered them all but no prize was given .....but a big smile from our server which was nice.
he couldn't fool us on any of the things he asked..

I know some ofthese are repeats, but I'm going from the top of my head.

Yes, if you are planning to eat at Forest Gump's the wait staff asks you trivia Qs about the movie. Mel's is from American Graffiti.

Any Marvel movie...ride/parades include Spider-Man, X-Men (Storm, Wolverine, Cyclops), Hulk, Fantastic Four (Dr Doom)
Popeye, Betty Boop, Dudley DoRight
Jurassic Park/World
Harry Potter
Sinbad movies (or you could do Aladdin...I know it's really Disney)
Dr Seuss

Mummy
Scooby Doo, I Love Lucy (interactions)
American Graffiti (Mels)
Blue's Bros (show)
Monster movies
Back to the Future (interaction & Delorian)
Simpsons
MIB
Curious George (play area)
Barney (show)
Fievel (play area)
movies with animal actors (show)
Fear Factor (show)
ET
SpongeBob (interaction/store)

I have seen it, but years ago. The kids never have. We've seen pretty much all these movies but I wanted to make a list of movies to watch on family movie nights in preparation for the trip. To build excitement plus you tend to get more out of the little details when the movie is fresher in your mind. At least with Disney that's the case. Haven't been to Universal in 14 years.

they drive to one specific area.
park the car on the street and do a show across from finnegans side door side.

I thought that was just the Blues Brothers? Ghostbusters do a show too? How have I missed that?!?

While watching the films / shows to relate to the attractions does make the ride itself have more context and be a little more enjoyable depending on what ride. I think it's mainly the nostalgia, or little references to the film / show that make it so. I say this, because I wouldn't say that necessarily knowing the film, or have seen the film makes the ride all that much more amazing. A lot of rides (not all) have missions, or a storyline that has no relation to the film at all. As in, it could happen (in the film), but never happens in the actual film itself (the ride it might be based upon).

Also, there are plenty of rides I've been on without seeing the film and have enjoyed them. Some of them being a personal favorite of mine. However, some I've watched after the fact and have made it better. However, there are some I've seen after the fact that makes no difference.

The point I am trying to make is, if you can't cover it all, or your children can't see all the films, or shows, do not worry about it. It's the experience and memories which will truly make it a great time. Besides, if anything, in the future if you, or your children can see more of the films you might have not covered and if you come back, it will make the experience all the more better.

Definitely agree! We watch the shows/movies I listed kind of like a countdown to vacation, to get us psyched to go; not for any important reference :)
