DH and I will be married 20 years this October and I am just starting the planning stages for our 3 night trip.

I was thinking either Port Orleans Riverside or French Quarter.

Any advice?

There is someone here who I'm sure will post like 6 or 7 photos of the Coronado at anytime. :) But even so, I'd pick the French Quarter. Small, lovely landscaping, nice walks around the canal (or whatever it is called!)

You can get the carriage rides there too. And then there is the boat to Downtown Disney.

I'd not personally choose the POR for romance, though I'm sure others find it that way.

We would suggest POFQ also..

We have stayed at all the mods but POR (we are going in 4 weeks).

POFQ is "quaint" vs the other mods and can have a really nice feel to it..

We found WL (i know not a mod) our most romantic but that was our honeymoon 12 years ago, so we have a special place.

CSR would be my last choice. Others of course will have different opinions, but CSR is the only resort we would never go back to again. All the others we stayed at, from the Cabins in FW to All sports, we would go to again, without a second thought.

We LOVE the WL and I was thinking about staying there again (we stayed there alone for our 18th Anniversary)

I was thinking though we'd try something different, but WL is totally in the back of my mind . . .:goodvibes

I would have to pick CSR, Casitas section. It is the most romantic resort for night time strolls. Even in the day time, with all the fountains, it is beautiful.

POFQ is a close second because of the carriage rides and boat ride to DTD but depending who else is on the boat it might not be to romantic. Other than those things I don't consider POFQ as romantic.

I definitely would not consider POR or CBR as romantic.

POFQ would be my pick. It is so small compared to the other moderate resorts. We have stayed there many times over the years and we have always had great stays.

Another vote for POFQ, it's a lovely resort.

I like POR myself. I'm big on that rustic ambiance.

My vote is also for POFQ (or Riverside -- Magnolia Bend part). I admit that it's my favorite resort -- the boat to Downtown Disney, the layout of the 'streets', it's small and 'quaint' -- I've always liked the landscaping with the trees, flowers, and walking along the 'river'. But I'm biased, it's where I got engaged and where I stayed during our wedding :cloud9:

Me and my husband stayed at POR last august, we don't have any kids.
I loved it!! The mansions are beautiful and the boat ride to downtown disney is great!!

I must say though I have not stayed at any other moderate resorts so I can't compare them...

But POR is wonderful!!!

CSR!! CSR has a spa, try the couples massage. Check out these threads and visit my CSR website below.

I would have to agree and say POFQ due to how small and how gorgeous it is. My DH will disagree with me and say POR because he has never been to POFQ. Therefore for our trip this summer, we are heading to POR, can't complain, because I have not ever stayed there myself. I have only been there to eat at Boatwright's. :)

CSR is absolutely beautiful from the city casitas to the beachy cabanas. At night it is absolutely stunning, all the lights, their reflections in the lake. I think getting a drink and walking around the lake at night, or sitting in a hammock, enjoying a lounge by the pyramid pool or a soak in the biggest hot tub...........

Also a more adult like atmosphere than the other moderates and has the plus of three themes in one, city sophistication, southwest desert and tropical beaches.

POR has lovely southern charm and it would be my second choice. From the bayous to the formal gardens, quiet pools, carriage rides, boat to DTD....

I vote for CSR! As mentioned, you can use the spa for a massage. In room massages are available as well. You can use the full menu room service to order some chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. You can stroll around the resort and night when it is all lit up, it's simply gorgeous. Stop at the white sand beach to swing on one of the hammocks, they face the casitas that look amazing at night.

CSR. DH and I love the resort. Don't like the rooms, but we don't think the disney rooms are comfie anywhere. For comfort and romance for a moderate price we go to the Dolphin. Many discounts there. This summer we got $125!
They have a teacher, nurse, police, firefighter, military, AAA, AARP discounts.
You make your own romance anywhere at Disney.

We fell in love with the Caribbean Beach Resort the minute we stepped on the resort property. Everything is so lush and beautiful. The buildings are painted bright colors and we saw no peeling paint anywhere.

You will check in at the Custom House. Our check in went extremely well. All of the windows were full and there were numerous families in front of us. We were checked in, given our room key/theme park tickets, shown to the concierge desk to get our Hoop Dee Doo Review tickets and on our way to our room in less than 30 minutes. Most people won't visit Custom House again until they check out so it is not necessary to request a room near the CH.

We were assigned to Jamaica, Building 41. Our room faced a beautiful courtyard. All of our requests (non smoking, upstairs, facing courtyard) were met. We were just a 3 minute walk to the bus station and a 5 minute walk to Old Port Royale. It took less than a minute to the Jamaica quiet pool and beach.

The rooms at the CBR are 340 sq. feet where the other moderates are 314 sq. feet. Believe me, you'll be glad you have the extra space when you get all your things in the room.

The room was immaculate. There are two beds (unless you request a king size room which has only one bed), a nightstand, a table and two chairs, a large mirror, an armoire with three large drawers, a refrigerator, a padded bench with large drawer beneath and a peg type shelf. The mattresses were replaced in May and June, 2006. They were replacing them during our stay. Because the beds were raised off the floor, I stored our luggage beneath to get them out of the way.

The sink/closet area is of ample size. The sinks are enclosed in a wooden cabinet and there is storage underneath each sink. The closet rod and shelf are pretty long. There were a dozen hangers and we brought along 2 dozen more. I also brought along a mesh laundry bag for our dirty clothes. There is a privacy curtain that can be pulled to separate the sink/closet area from the bedroom which is nice when everybody is trying to get ready at once.

The bathroom is the typical size. No mold, no mildew, no loose tiles. I checked.

A coffeemaker, iron, ironing board and hairdryer are provided.

Mousekeeping was wonderful. They cleaned the room thoroughly every day. They also replinished the coffee, linens, towels and toiletries.

We never heard our next door neighbors. No running water, no flushing toilets, no talking, no nothing. One of the quietest places we have ever stayed.

Each village has their own quiet pool and white sandy beach. The Jamaica pool was never crowded and, sometimes, we had it all to ourselves. The laundry facilities are located right beside the pools so you can do your laundry and not feel as if you are wasting any vacation time.

The beaches were swept clean every night. It was nice to laze around in the hammocks on the Jamaica beach and watch the Epcot fireworks at night. Some of the beaches have small playgrounds for the little ones and some have volleyball nets for the bigger kids.

We found the island in the middle of the lake to be a nice getaway. Tropical music played all around the island and there were benches placed here and there. We even saw some families having picnics and birthday parties on the island.

You can rent watermice, pontoon boats, sailboats, canoes, surrey bikes and bicycles from the marina.

The main pool was pretty crowded during our stay but we didn't mind because we used the Jamaica pool. Located beside the main pool are a pool bar, a hot tub and hair wrap station.

Shutter's is the full service restaurant. Even our picky 9 year old son found something he liked on the Caribbean themed menu.

The food court served a variety of foods. You will find burgers, chicken strips, rotissiere chicken, vegetables, pizza, pasta, salads, fresh made sandwiches, yogurt, assortment of desserts, veggies and dip, fresh fruit, fresh bakery items, etc. At breakfast, you will find breakfast meats, mickey waffles, omelets, eggs, fresh bakery items, etc.

The store is divided in two with one side selling CBR themed items such as pirate items, swimming suits, flip flops, jewelry, etc. The other side sells the more traditional Disney items such as t-shirts, purses, watches, snowglobes, toys, etc.

There is a medium sized arcade. You purchase a refillable playing card and just swipe it at the game you want to play. No keeping up with tokens or coins.

We loved the CBR so much we booked our June, 2007 stay just days after arriving home from our June, 2006 stay.

Hope this helps with your decision making process, Lisa

One more vote for POR, esp Magnolia Bend. A bit more spread out than POFQ so better chance of quiet alone strolls. Plus pretty likely to have a quite pool all to yourselves if you should want a "private" dip. The carriage ride (at night, it's gotta be at night!) is very romantic. My DW and I were holding hands and just enjoying ourselves even though we had DD8 & DD4 along. :surfweb:

As of right now I would vote for CBR - lying in a hammock on the beach watching the fireworks and taking a lovely stroll around the lake was very romantic. I'm heading to POR in a bit over a month and that also looks very romantic.
