My boyfriend of 7 years and I are planning to go in Nov. We (I'm) trying to pick a place to stay, we are up for either moderate or value resorts (we're in college/not tons of money). I want to stay at a romantic place. I looked at the value resorts sites and they look like they would be to busy/loud, but I would like to ask people who have gone can this type of resort be romantic? I have been leaning towards Port Orleans Riverside, but out of the moderate reosorts is this one nice for alittle getaway and if so which side ? My boyfriend wants to do a value resort so we'll have more money to spend around WDW he thinks we will not spend much time at the resort, I disagree I rather spend extra if it will make our trip more romantic. Can you please help?

Personally, I would stay at POR or Caribbean. I, personally, like the theme at Caribbean because I enjoy feeling a little tropical. But, I think that POR is a little more romantic. The whole area is just beautiful. It's very nice to walk along the water, they even have horse drawn carriage rides. You can also take a nice boat ride to Downtown Disney. No matter where you can stay, you can make it romantic...but I think POR has the most romantic atmosphere. Have fun! :thumbsup2

I have never stayed at a moderate, but I can tell you that the values are loud. Lots of families stay at these resorts. Kids running around. Of course that's only my opinion. We're staying at Fort Wilderness in a cabin this August (myself, fiance and his 2 kids - 10 and 13). Good luck with your decision.

I would rank the mods for romance (from highest to lowest):

POFQ - smaller, quieter
POR - river setting, larger resort
CBR - tropical, but large and spread out
CSR - convention resort

We did POFQ for our honeymoon back in 2004. It was very quiet and charming and romantic, even in July.

Haven't stayed at many moderates, but I agree with the others that the value resorts are loud and full of kids (often times high school age groups/teens).

We just stayed at POR for one night before our stay at SSR, and it was really nice. The mansions and the pathways were rather romantic. I was impressed. I think we only paid like $10 or $15 more than the value would have cost us too!

I agreed POR.

but I found the lake view at Pop to be romantic. Not alot of teens in this area.

if you aren't staying a weekend you might consider renting points and staying at OKW, VWL, BCV - okay BWV and SSR, too - soon a new one AKV.

now if you are staying Fri or Sat forget this suggestion.

If you're planning on staying Sunday thru Thursday, I wouldn't do either!

I would rent DVC points for a villa at one of the EPCOT resorts. I think that whole area leans towards romantic walking hand in hand.

Go read the FAQ's on the rent DVC forum here on the disboards and you'll find that renting a DVC villa can be as cheap as a value resort per night. AND there isn't any additional taxes on top of the base amount required. The biggest catch is staying away from Friday and Saturday nights because they double in price.

Trust me! You won't regret looking into this!

DW & I celebrated a second honeymoon at Coronado back in 2000. We were given a free upgrade to a corner room with a lake view. Wow!!! It was beautiful!!! This is already a nice resort, but the view was impressive. Plus, the pool is one of Disney's best. I believe Coronado has it's own bus service, not sharing with another resort. More than one one person has referred to Coronado Springs as a moderate that seems like a deluxe.

I agree with previous posters in voting for POFQ or POR (Plantation buildings) as far as romantic. We love the boat ride to DT Disney and the lush grounds.

BUT, I have also stayed at Pop Century and the All Star Music and both were great with Pop being much louder/busier than Music.

Honestly, when money is tight (I'm a single Mom so I can relate) I say go with cheap. Are you going to WDW to hang out in your room and watch people pass by your window? Probably not.

For our average 7 night stay, the moderates run approx. $450 more than the values and to me that is money best spent on something else.

Renting DVC points is a good idea too but I wouldn't recommend the Saratoga as it was extremely spread out and didn't have much to offer besides rooms, pool and a limited food venue. Some of the other DVC properties have a much better atmosphere and more "extra" things to do on property.

I say POFQ! 9 years ago I went there on a Friday with my boyfriend and left the following Wednesday with a fiancee'! Went back two years later and he was then my husband, so POFQ gets my vote. Corner room with a water view is just fantastic and romantic.

Caribbean Beach :thumbsup2

Port Orleans Riverside in one of the Mansions buildings!:thumbsup2 Right out of the Old South - doesn't get any more romantic!!! Very peaceful resort with beautiful grounds; you can even go for an evening horse-drawn carriage ride right through the property.

I second the poster who said look into renting DVC points, esp if you can stay away from a weekend night. If you are going November 1-20th you are in the second cheapest season pointwise for DVC. A studio will run you 8 - 12 points per night depending on where you stay. Points are generally $10/point. The 8 pointer is Old Key West which is where I stay and is really nice, but I would only do if you have a car. If you don't have a car the points are as follows

For a studio at..
*Beach Club (sunday-thursday) 12 points per night
*Boardwalk 9 points in a standard view (hard to get) 12 points in a boardwalk or pool view
*Saratoga Springs 11 points per night
*Villas at Wildernes Lodge (my FAVORITE) 12 points per night

If you do this you are getting to stay at a Deluxe for a Moderate price.

If you go for a Moderate I like POFQ or POR (I honeymooned there).

I agree with POR, of course this is the only on site hotel I've stayed in. I really liked the boat ride to DTD every night. I have pics of POR if you want me to E-mail them to you I can.

I have heard about doing this - that you can get some great weekday deals - but have no idea exactly how it works. I guess I too will check out that area of the board - thanks!
