I wasn't sure if I'd get more responses here or on the transportation board so I'm double posting this. ;)

My bff and I are planning our girls only trip and will be flying and therefore completely relying on Disney transport. We know we'll be staying at a mod and are torn between one of the PO resorts and CSR. We've already ruled out CB for other reasons.

It's going to be a short trip and my friend is also going to be running the Princess 1/2 marathon so timing really is everything. We want the most bang for our buck time wise, and while we both realize that no resort is going to be perfect when relying on buses we are wondering if one is better than others.

We are planning dinner twice at DTD so the water taxi from the PO resorts seems like a good idea but is it really that much of a time saver?

What about the bus situation with these resorts being so far from the parks?

What is the bus situation like at CSR?

Thanks in advance for any help! :goodvibes

It looks like CSR is not one of the Host resorts for the Princess Half. So, that means one of the two POs. Of the two, I think most people find POFQ more convenient---it only has one bus stop, and while it sometimes shares with POR, if it does, POFQ is the first stop, so no watching full buses driving by.

As for DTD: I either take the water taxi (if available), or I drive/get a cab. The bus situation to DTD is really hit or miss.

Thank you! I don't think either of us were even thinking about the fact that CSR isn't a host resort... thanks for reminding me of this as it will make our decision much easier!

Although the water taxis are awesome at the Port Orleans resorts, I can tell you they take forever! You are better off staying at POFQ, though, because at least then you are the last pick up for DTD and the first drop off.

All of the buses to DTD, regardless of resort, take forever.

And I mean, forever.

Thank you! POFQ definitely seems to be the better of the PO resorts concerning both buses and the water taxi.

I haven't done them from PO, but I have from OKW. They do take a while, for sure. However, unlike the buses, you are more than welcome to bring a drink from the bar along with you on the boats (plastic cups, please!), and when the weather is pleasant, that's an awfully enjoyable way to cruise!

We stayed at POFQ Thanksgiving Week and the buses did not take long to get us to and from the parks and the boat ride to DTD is 15 minutes. We really liked it. It is a short walk or boat ride to POR if you want to have a meal there or visit for other reasons. I really liked that the resort is small and quiet. I'd stay there again.

We've stayed at CBR & POR-Riverside, and never had a transportation problem.

The boat to DTD at POR is great. You stop for 2 min at FQ to pick up, no big deal. The boat is not about being the fastest transportation to DTD, it's more about enjoyment.
Actually POR is pretty centrally located to the parks. It doesn't take long to get to any of the parks.

I realize you've since mentioned some other issues and it does sound like POR/POFQ might be a better choice for you. That said, we have stayed at CSR twice, both times during Pres. Week and our experience with transporation both times was EXCELLENT. We never waited very long for busses and busses were often only half full, if not nearly empty. I chalk that up to the resort being full of convention guests. Its also a nice pick for adults, as there are a few different places to get a drink, as well as a lounge/night club. We just loved CSR and will stay there again in the future, if we stay mod again. :goodvibes

I am not familiar with the details of the marathon. Maybe you will get specific transportation info, hope so. Otherwise, prepare to consider a taxi to the start of the event. They are easy to hail from the lobby.

Hotel-wise, POR or POFQ are my choice every visit to WDW. Especially considering your planned visits to DTD. The water-taxi is definitely quicker than bus service to DTD, and oh-so-pleasant, like an excursion within a vacation. Twenty minutes one-way, but you have to consider wait time for the boat. Leaving DTD in the 10-11pm time, you may wait in a line for 2-3 boats. However, they arrive fairly often. I think the service is very professionally managed. Make sure of where your DTD restaurants are. The boat arrives at the east side (marketplace side). DTD also has restaurants on the west side, and it would be a long, time-consuming hike from the POR boat dock. There is another boat you can board at the same DTD dock, that takes you to the west side, and this is far quicker than walking, but again, you have wait time, so it's not a super-quick process. Allow lots of transportation time for DTD.

Travel by bus to the parks from POR and POFQ is not bad at all. 15 minutes travel time. Very nice buses. You won't miss the fact that you have no car. WDW makes it easy to get around.
