I know, I know we spent more just buying the Disney pkg but we threw this trip together at the last minute and we are both so busy we just don't have the time to shop and compare. The good side is we get a few extra little goodies like a magic feature. The three we can choose from are:
1. Magic Morning Breakfast. (not real thrilled with this. I've eaten it and it was very so-so.) We can upgrade to a character b-fast I think.

2. Welcome to DL tour.

3. Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour.

We are a family of 3. Two adults and a nine year old who does have ADHD and Tourette Syndrome. We have all done DL before - The adults numerous times and our son once. All of us have been to WDW twice in the past 18 months and cruised 2x with DCL in the same time period. We are doing plenty of character breakfasts again this fall at WDW and I was leaning to #3 but am a little afraid that my son would be bored and/or disruptive. His tics are not a problem for us, we don't even notice them anymore but others have a tendancy to focus on them.
Any opinions?

We opted for Upgrading to the Character Breakfast. I didn't think that Mutt and Jeff would be that interested in the other two choices, and like you, we've done the Magic morning breakfast several times and weren't overly impressed.....except that it did get you into the park earlier.

And by the way.....unlike the WDW packages.....the DL packages aren't stretched in price. I did join the Disney Club again, and it did save us some money......but being the budding LS that I am, The Disney Travel Package came out cheaper than everything else that I tried. We are staying at the West Coast Anaheim and they offered 1 free night if you stayed 2. It actually came out cheaper than if we had stayed at the Jolley Roger hotel, which is the lowest price that they advertise. I tried the website that prices hotels for Priceline.com and was going to go that route and get tickets separately, and well, putting it all together came out about the same, and we added the character breakfast, and we get the pins, lanyards etc.

And it is nice that all the documents come in one handy/dandy little package.

Let me know how your trip goes.

I agree with the idea of upgrading the Magic Morning to a character breakfast. The Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour is about a couple hours, I think, so I don't know how your son would deal with that. It seems to be something that adults are much more into.

Does anyone know what the Walk in Walt's footsteps is like?

Also since I didn't upgrade to Character B-fast when ordering, am I too late? Anyone, Anyone?

I agree with the above posters...I often get DL packages (unlike WDW) because they either break even or give you a slight discount if you were to put it together yourself.

My latest trip, I booked through DU (which was a GREAT experience) and got about $100 off the package with DC. We upgraded to character breakfast, and I think we did it after we booked, but not exactly sure. I would take the chance and ask. They don't give you the vouchers until shortly before you leave, so I don't think it would be a problem.

I went on Walk in Walt's Footsteps. I think it would've been better if we had a different guide. It started at City Hall, went up Main Street, through Fantasyland, and we ended up at the Haunted Mansion. Took a little over 2 hours. The guide we had pretty much said stuff I have already read in books, and only offered a few pieces of unique information. I was disappointed, but not so much in the tour as in the guide.

We had the character breakfast at Storyteller's Cafe (but we're adults, no kids) and liked the food. Chip, Dale, and Pluto were the characters. They pretty much stay at the entry, but we had a very active Dale who came to visit people at the tables, and they gathered all the kids together at one point too. I've also heard great things about Goofy's Kitchen.

As a beginning LS.........Again.....I know you can make changes anytime up until you travel. I would think that it is a pretty minor detail. Obviously you have received your package from Disney. Did you book thru an Agent or book at WD Travel yourself? Either Way, I would call them..... I'm sure the upgrade is still doable.......BUT........Before you switch, you may want to call the 1-714-781-DINE and try to book priority seating.....for breakfast and make sure there is still something available. Even if you get the character breakfast you have to book your own PS. Your choices are Goofy's at the Disneyland Hotel, PCH Grill at Paradise Pier, Storytellers Cafe at GC and Plaza Inn at Disneyland. You can not get ressies for Plaza Inn, that is strictly walk-in only. I've got a thread probably on the next page about Character breakfast choices and peoples thoughts on them. We have always liked Goofy's and Goofy Karen was really impressed with it in December.......Just a few thoughts.

Email me if you need some more info.........I got loads of it....

So neither of the tours get you in the wheel room on the Mark Twain or in the caboose on the train? Rats! I thought I had read somewhere that one of them did. Maybe we will rethink the character breakfast idea.

My son also has TS. I would opt for a character meal. :)

It's going through the park, learning about the history as it pertains to Walt. For example, there's talk about Walt's apartment above the fire house and the apartment that was going to be built over PotC. For diehards who read lots of Disney history books, there are things that won't be new to you, but there was still a lot of trivia that I didn't know about. I'm told that the tours do vary slightly, depending on who is conducting it.

Actually, those are things that you can do without going on a tour. For the Mark Twain, you can ask a CM if the pilot is letting folks ride in the wheel house and, if so, is there availability for that at the moment. (It's a first come, first served thing.) As for the caboose, I'm not sure if it's open all of the time, but you can ask a CM if the caboose is open when you are at a train station.

The thing you might be thinking of that was one of the previous highlights to the tour was getting to ride Walt's own private train car. Unfortunately, I have heard that this car was pulled off the line some time ago due to wood rot. :(
