Anyone have Nextel and love their phone? I wonder which kind to get.. I don't care about a ton of extras, but I'd like the "push to talk" thing... I don't know what it's called.

TIA!!!

Have had Nextel for several years now. Have been through a lot of phones, only because when the new ones come out I have to have them. A few basics: all have the PTT (push to talk) that is standard. PTT only works with NExtel, you can't call Sprint or Cingular phones on their walkie talkie systems. NExtel phones are heavier than other phones, I think its' the PTT thing. My DH and I have i850s, both girls have i836s. DH swapped with older DD so she would have the camera phone (ain't he a great dad). Both phones we have have color screens, downloadable ring tones, and internet option. They now have one that has a mp3 player built in, and there is a Blackberry available, as well as a new one that has a windows mobile (whatever that is, I'm a Palm OS person :) ) system on it. You pay extra for web plans for the Blackberry and windows mobile phones.

I have the I870 and love that, helps with the SWA check-ins and enjoy the music.
I have a Blackberry older model for work it's Ok.
DW has the I860 no complaints
DD has an unlocked I860 tattoo boost it's was mine when I upgraded she got it.
Dm had a I760 I think basic color phone no camers
DsF has one of the Nascar phones..no complaints at all.

They also have a new phone out that goes on the sprint network with the nextel PTT or Direct conect. If you are starting a new plan you might want to go that route as Sprint has a better network for the cell side of things.

Another plus with the nextels is that you can get replacement phones off e-bay cheap if anything happens to your . Just switch out the Sims card and your set. We have 3 of our 5 purchased off E-bay and that beat even our 20% corporate discount that we get direct.

Thank you! That helps alot! We have Sprint right now and I thought it has a better network, but for some reason, we live in a little spot that doesn't get good Sprint service... it won't work at our house or in our neighborhood, so I think we are going to try Nextel.. My Brother in law has a Nextel and it seems to work at the house, so I am hoping we could get one that works for us too..

I think we are off to the Sprint store to check them out!!!

Thanks!!

I am going to suggest don't get the walkie talkie one if that is possible... It is SOOO annoying to other people. My neighbor (apt building) has one and all I hear is do doo, do doo, do doo, do doo. In all seriousness, that noise is so disruptive in public places too.

All Nextels have the PTT feature. You can put it on vibrate, and you can also opt to listen like it's a regular phone call. People that have them often choose not to silence the PTT feature, but there are rude people on regular cell phones too. There's nothing worse than the ones that talk loud enough so that the entire restaurant knows who their "baby daddy" is and that he's cheating with another woman. :confused3

There are now two dual mode phone that is the best of both Sprint worlds IMHO. Sprint's voice network is better than the Nextel network, so you get that but the PPT. It's a Motorola phone - on the website they're the ic402 and ic502

I have the i560. I have been with Nextel for 8 years and I have gone through 4 different models. The i560 is very durable and basic. It has a color screen but it does not have a camera or mp3 player. If your looking for a "basic" Nextel phone, this is a great option. It is EXTREMELY durable. I work as a paramedic and my Nextel is always on my belt at work. It has been dropped many times and exposed to rain and snow (not directly, it is NOT waterproof) and it has held up much better than any of the other phones I have owned. I do not even use a case for it, just the belt clip it comes with. It is also small and very slim if you want to just slide it into your pocket without the clip.

I have the i850 also, and haven't had any problems with it...........as far as the walkie talkie/direct connect feature.........I LOVE it, use it all the time and it saves on your minutes..........I do agree that it can me loud and rude but as someone else said you can change it to vibrate so you don't hear the loud beep and you can shut the speakerphone off and use it through the receiver on the phone.........that's what I do when I'm in public.......I really don't want everybody and their brother listening to my converstation so I shut of the speaker :rotfl: ........anyway, good luck choosing!!!!

Are those phones listed on the Sprint site or the NExtel site? I was unable to find them on the Nextel site for my zip code area.

their on the nextel side on the website - They came up on my zipcode. My BF works for Motorola designing nextel phones so he had told me about them (I'm PCS, he's Nextel).

to reach is located. That is the recording I hear everytime I call my husband. My husband has Nextel and their serviced area here in New Jersey and Pennsylvania is very Choppy. My son who uses his Nextel up in Conneticut is very pleased with his Nextel. See if someone you know has Nextel service and make sure it works in the areas you will be using the most. I think that is the secret to being happy with any plan Good Luck!!:goodvibes
