Which itinerary/cruise is best for motion sickness?

Well, for me, I get very motion sick, but it's easy to control with medication (either OTC or prescribed) and we love everything a cruise has to offer. The first thing, for us, is that we can go to multiple destinations and have all different types of adventures. We like busy and active vacations with a lot of variety and a cruise is exactly the type of vacation that provides that. Logistically, setting up a vacation like the one we had in Alaska on our cruise would be very time consuming and difficult with a lot of unpacking/packing.

I completely agree. Trying to find things that amuse a multi-generational family, some with mobility-issues, would be so hard in another sort of vacation. Besides I HATE changing hotels!! I'm also the type who gets motion sick at the drop of a hat. I used to take Dramamine, which was a terrible compromise for me: it Always made me continuously, mildly sick so that I would not get violently ill. We're talking leaning over the back of a small boat, wishing-I-could-die-but-knowing-that-sea-sickness-doesn't-kill-people ill.

Consider talking to a doctor about Bonine -- they can sometimes prescribe different doses. It is a life changer!! I survived a coast-to-coast Amtrak trip without issue. After that, I'm thinking a cruise will be cake :)

P.S. My TA insists that the Med is like cruising in a giant bathtub.

...which itinerary (anywhere in the world) is the best for motion sickness? i.e. Which route goes through the calmest waters?

Thanks!

Agree with all the Alaska comments, our cruise was calm the entire way. Our Mediterranean was very calm as well however the cruise immediately before ours in the Med reported a couple days of very rough seas. Our Venice to Barcelona was very calm as well, just too many port days in a row, really wears you out.

Can not help at all with any suggestions on whether you should try, I have no experience with motion sickness.

Alaska can be a smooth sailing depending on which port you depart from. When we did the Med it was very smooth. Oddly enough, our WBTA in 2007 was the smoothest sailing we've ever been on -- the ocean was like glass for six straight days.
