Usually I go with a lower-case "lol" unless it's something really ALL CAPS-WORTHY. Same goes for LMAO.

If it's funny but then I use lol or LOL. If I'm actually seriously laughing out loud then I use lmao or LMAO. In order of funniness the list is as follows:
