When I was a kid/teenager (the 80s), Tomorrowland was my favorite area of Disneyland; it really did seem like something out of the future, especially at night, with all the lights & various forms of "futuristic transportation". After the 1998 remodel, I just didn't get the same vibe from it.
Now, New Orleans Square is my favorite area of the Park...I find it to be a fully-immersive environment, from the landscaping & architecture to the food that's served in the restaurants there. And it being right next to a river (albeit a human-made river!) really adds to the "authenticity".
