I have been on Columbus day about 3 years ago and don't remember it being too bad crowd-wise. I was just wondering if crowds are worse Columbus Day weekend or Thanksgiving week. We normally would not go during a holiday weekend, but I am starting nursing school and cannot miss any classes! Any input would be helpful. Thanks guys!!!

We did Thanksgiving week twice years ago and it was bad, starting the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. In fact, we were waiting for the ferry at the MK that Tuesday before at about 10:00 am and I remember thinking "People, go back, go back. It's crazy in there!" We went over to MGM and it wasn't too bad until noon when we decided to go visit our local friends.

This year for the first time we are going to be there over Columbus Day weekend and I hear that the locals pack the place but we are planning to take it easy on Saturday and Sunday of that weekend doing most of our "touring" on the days prior to the weekend. Thank goodness we have been enough times now that we don't have to see everything and we don't have children with us to entertain.

Our experience was that the week prior to Thanksgiving week was fantastic and good touring until that Tuesday before Thanksgiving.

Good luck with nursing school!

We went last thanksgiving wed-tues and the only day that was absolutly horrible was that Fri after thanksgiving and that was at the MK...it was unbelievably crowded...also on the days that certain parks were open early they tended to be crowded so we learned early not to go on open early days...over all the only bad day was that fri and we had park hopper tickets so we just left MK for another day...If you go for Thanksgiving make your dinner ressie early it was hard to find a restaurant we ended up at Rose and Crown at Epcot which turned out okay but we got lucky...We have booked our trip for this Thanksgiving again and just cant wait...Have fun which ever time you decide to go!!!Good Luck in Nursing school I have been a nurse for 12 years!!

We were at wdw last columbus weekend and it was pretty bad, I have not done thanksgiving so I can't compare. Be sure to hit the parks early and have a plan and you will be fine. MNSSHP was fun and not crowded so try that also. Have fun!

Oh no...now i'm nervous!! we're scheduled to be in WDW from 9/30 through 10/7. Is it going to be absolutely crazy on 10/6 (the Friday of Columbus Day Weekend)?

We arrive on 10/6 and will be doing the AK and MGM on Saturday. Sunday will be a free day. Columbus Day will be a water park day. After that, we're hoping the crowds will be more or less gone and we can enjoy the last four days of our trip.

While we're on the topic of Columbus Day, is it only bad in the MK or are the water parks packed with locals as well?

TIA!

We were in the MK on Columbus Day 2 years ago and it was ABSOLUTELY PACKED! I've read that other parks aren't affected as much. We will be arriving on the Saturday before CD this year and will avoid MK on Monday.
