HI all, I am going to disney middle of Sept (14th -20th'ish) and was wondering if anyone knows which is a good place or how much approx it is to fly out of Detroit or Flint Michigan? (Two adults and two children). If anyone can reply back that would be fabulous! Besides which, should we decide to drive instead of fly and we are staying at either Pop or Movies resort can we park our vehicle at these resorts?

Southwest! Download their ding! program and they have special sell-off fares starting about 2 months before your departure dates. Last year we flew SW from Detroit for $59 each way (non-stop departure, one stop on return). If you're not comfortable waiting for Ding!, you can still book a *non-refundable* flight for about $100 or so through SW's regular website booking.

I fly from Detroit to MCO at least 3 times per year.
I have used 3 different airlines in the past 2 years. There isn't one that is ALWAYS cheaper so look around.

Try Northwest, Airtran and Spirit! Remember, if you are flying Spirit, that they charge $10 per person, per bag, each way (if you pre-pay... it is $20 if you pay at the airport) so factor that into the cost.

You can use www.kayak.com to compare prices from different airlines and airports it is showing airtran at $ 210 usd taxes in for those dates from Detroit All of the Values have free parking but if you drive request a room close to a parking lot

I'm holding out for Southwests schedule, Spirit and Air tran have gone waaaay up for the dates I want (end of Aug).....but those are the 2 I ususally keep tabs on. Northwest I have had nothing but horrible luck on in terms of delays, cancellation, lost luggage, and their fares are usually not the cheapest to florida anyway.

I don't just look at fares, but also schedule. I will pay a (small) premium for a non-stop flight as I'd much rather take 3 hours to get there than 4-5. Also, I like to arrive early and leave late which can give you close to another half day at your destination.

We've got flights booked on Spirit for June, arriving Thursday at 10:20am and returning Sunday at 6:00pm. Southwest does have one daily n/s flight from DTW, but it arrives in MCO at 2:00pm and the return flight leaves at 12:15pm. With Spirit's schedule, we get an extra 9 hours in Florida. That may not seem like much if you're staying for a week, but it's huge for a three-day stay. Besides, we paid US$240 r/t for 2 and I haven't seen a fare on any airline that's come close to that since we booked in January.

Thanks to everyone for all their replies. I will continue to check this site as I find it very helpful and informative! Can't wait for our trip to Disney on Sept 14th!

Hmmm good info on southwest, that would be IDEAL for the flight down, I hate the early morning flights, with 3 kids, getting to the airport for an 8 a.m. (we are more than an hour, and an international border away from DTW, so we have to either leave in the middle of the night, or stay over the night before) flight is almost a guarantee that someone will be cranky later in the day, or even worse, end up throwing up. I really wanted a later departure flight, I wonder about booking one way with southwest, and the return with someone else......
