Which is the better deal?

We said we weren't going to go to WDW in 2014.

So of course I got a pin code in the mail for the first time ever. :rotfl2:

I'm considering it. But we have two choices. One says 35% off hotel and one says Free Dining Plan.

Which do you think is a better deal? Two adults, one 11 year old, 7 days in February at Port Orleans.

I've never done free dining before.

Thanks!

I need more information before I can say. How may people are in you family? How many over 10? How many under 10? Where are you planning to stay?

You would have to run the numbers to see which one has the bigger savings as there are several factors that come into play. We are a family of 4 (all adults) and always stay deluxe. Sometimes FD comes out to be the better deal for us (even at a deluxe) and sometimes a RO discount is better. It all depends on the resort, room type, time of year, how many in your party and their ages, etc. I would call and get a quote for FD and RO discount and compare the two to see which one is the better deal.

What type of dining plan are they offering for free?

Generally, when one compares a 30% room rate to a free dining plan it's always better to do the dining plan unless you're staying at deluxe resort with only 2 adults. In your case, even though you're getting 35% off, you're staying at a moderate resort with 4 people that would benefit from the dining plan. The dining plan would almost certainly be the better option.

It looks like FD would be the better deal for your family. According to this thread (http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=3172886) the cost of the DDP in 2014 is $59/pp (adult) per night. This is a savings of $177/nt. for 3 adults. The most expensive room at POR that I found (I just plugged in dates of 2/22-2/28) was a royal river view for $257/nt ($294 for Saturday). This would only be a savings of $90/nt with a 35% discount ($103 for Saturday) compared to $177/nt under FD.

Free dining would be a bigger savings for your family than 30% off a room at Port Orleans. The dining plan for your family would cost about $58-59 per person (about $180 per day) whereas 30% off the most expensive room would only save you about $75 per day. You have to buy tickets when you get the dining plan, but you were probably going to do that anyway. :)

Yup. Free dining is a better deal than 30% off a moderate resort for 3 Disney Adults. If you were only a couple staying at a Deluxe resort the percentage discount would be a better deal.
