Based on your experience, which is scarier, if either. DD8 :earsgirl: has been on an upside down ride before, and some mild roller coasters such as Runaway Train and Skull Mountain at Six Flags Great Adventure. She has also enjoyed simulators such as Back to the Future at US.

What are your thoughts? :confused3

I'd probably say RNR - mainly b/c of the take off (0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds). That can be a little upsetting to a child, I would imagine. I took my mom on RNR during our October trip & she likes roller coasters. But she didn't care for RNR b/c of the take off & the loud music. Isn't it funny that those are the 2 reasons I LOVE RNR!!

Space Mountain is much more tame, in my opinion.

Though both are in darkened buildings, the start of RNR can take your breath away. It's a major roller coaster with big loops, fast turns and loud music.

I'd start with Space Mountain (maybe after Thunder Mountain) and work your way up to RNR.

I have always disliked roller coasters, but have since ridden most of the thrill rides at disney. I would say that RNR would be scarier just because of the noise and the dark and the loops and the beginning. Space Mountian is really fun....it looks like stars shooting all around you. Your child will probably really enjoy Space Mountain, I do and dont' like many rides like this.

For my daughters we started with Space Mountain when they were tall enough :) and then they tried RnR, which they love too! My youngest who is 8 always tries to smile when we take off for the pictures :teeth:

My DD turned 8 the week before our last trip and her big thrill was riding both over and over. On our previous trip she was 5 and too short. The only rides that were really scary to her were Dinosaur which she still rode twice- Her eyes were tightly closed as she clutched my arm on the second ride but she insisted on doing it again. She is also scared by Tower of Terror which she rode at 5, but still rode it once on this trip.

She describes both as the "good kind of scared". "You're scared but still having fun."

Just one 8 year old opinion.

I do not know - and couldn't guess how an 8 year old girl would respond to either ride.

I actually find SM more scary. RNRC certainly is much faster. But it is over quickly and only has high speed curves and inversions. Both rides are in the dark, but I can anticipate what is going to happen with RNRC much better than with SM. RNRC is much smoother. To me Space Mountain is almost like Big Thunder Railroad in the dark. Space Mountain has drops - not big drops, but the totally unpredictible drops in the dark are what frighten me to most.

I understand and appreciate everyone else's post, but just wanted to tell you that RNRC is not universally more scary to everyone.

I think RnR is a little more intense because of the start of the ride where they blast the music and you take off so fast suddenly. Although I love both of these rides, I did not allow my children on until they were 10 or 11. (can't remember which) My kids were kind of scared of some rides still at 8-9.

My DD8 liked both coasters but didn't like TOT even though she rode it twice.

My 10 year old will do Space Mountain but not RNR.

I think if your daughter can handle Skull Mountain, she could handle Space Mountain. Skull is faster, darker, and rougher than Space in my opinion. I would know too, I pratacly live at SFGAv. Which upside-down ride did she go one? Did she reach the 54 inch height requirement? If so, and has been on Chiller, I think she could handle RNRC.

Space Mt is much scarier to me than Rockin RC. All of those lights coming at you freak me out!!! Rockin RC is over so quickly too.

My son is 11 and he's been going on both of these rides since he met the height requirement. He was tall enough in kindergarten to ride rnrc. He loves it! As for which he thinks is scariest, he says Space Mt because you sit by yourself. He likes rnrc better because it is a smoother ride and he feels more secure in the restraint system.

My DD was 7 the 1st time she rode RnR and SM. She loved RnR and thought SM was ok. The one she wouldn't go on was the Haunted Manison, she didn't even make it in the front door! You kinda just have to play it by ear!!

i think space mountain i dunno why though
the thing i remember about RNRC is that i wouldn't go on it last time we went and i went to the shop to wait when the family came it was the picture of my sister just great
she has a face like shes frozen with fear she had the same face when we went on kraken in seaworld we went on that twice both times the same face it was really funny

The upside-down ride at Six Flags is the Spin Meister. She is not tall enough yet for the 54" height requirement for the big coasters there.

For my DD, RnR is scarier because it goes upside down and she doesn't like that. She's done both for a few years now (she's 9 now) and loves Space Mountain and doesn't care for RnR. Just one more vote. I don't the the start of RnR is scary at all, unlike some posters. Yes, it's incredibly fast, but generally that's not the scary part imho.

My sister went on Spin Meister for the first time when she was 7. Since than she's been brave enought ot go on every voaster we go to. She hasn't reached the 54" height requirement either, but shes done looping coaster great. But what scares your daughter. Is Spin meister the only one looper shhes been on? Did she go on freefall. I went on thet when I was 4 and loved. but I guess it all depends on the person.
