We will be sailing on the 2005 summer cruise [hopefully from FL to CA]. My mom is just recently widowed and will be traveling with my husband and I.

Which would be better: Two adjoining cabins or a two bedroom suite? Which is more economical. Which makes more sense.

In almost all circumstances two connecting cabins are cheaper (and MUCH easier to get) than a two-bedroom suite. There are only TWO 2BR suites on the ship and there are connecting cabins in several categories. :)

HOWEVER, if your mom is traveling alone in the second cabin she would pay a single supplement...not sure what it is on DCL but typically it's 150-200% of the regular cruise fare.

She COULD share a cabin with you, that would be the most economical.

You could always put one of your children with your mom ( on paper only if you wish ). And don't forget that with two rooms you have two full baths. That can always come in handy.

We looked into this last year and ended up with the two adjoining cabins.

(BTW, Economics is my middle name).

We loved the:

Duplication of everything: Twice the sinks (-4- total with the split bathrooms), twice the mirrors, storage space etc.

Privacy! We went to see some friends suite and it did not have nearly the privacy the double rooms did.

For kids it was great (Dis teens) as they could have sleep overs, etc and felt so grown up with their "own" room.

For parents, :earseek:

We loved it so much we rebooked the same adjoining cabins for next time.

Thanks for your input. I think it will be two adjoining rooms. However, Makaylee, I'm not sure about your answer -- does putting "one of your children on the reservation 'on paper'" make a difference in the price?

Yes it does. DCL books for double occupancy. If only one person is booked in a room they normally pay either 175% or 200% of the rate. If you book one of your children in the room they will then just each pay the regular rate.

I could be wrong, but I think if you put a adult and a child only in one room you will both pay the adult rate, 2 adults for the first 2 rates, so really you would not be saving anything. If you are paying for the child and your mother is paying her's then it would save her money, but you will pay more.

Thanks for your imput. However, maybe I didn't make myself clear. There are no children -- just my husband, my mom and myself. Unfortunately, we are all over the age of 21! :D

Your mother will have to pay for 1 and 1/2 persons to have a single room. Our adult single son had to pay this rate for his room. It is still worth it!! You can get connecting rooms or adjoining rooms. We like the connecting rooms. Whatever you get, you will enjoy it!!
