To rent the extra points I need to cover those days or to pay cash for them?
I don't have enough points to cover two weekends during our stay next year during value season (first week of december). I'm try to figure out which is more cost effective... renting the extra points or paying cash for those nights. Oh I would be staying in a 2 bedroom at OKW.
All advice would be appreciated.

thanks,

It may depend on which weekend you are staying, because there are three seasons in December.

The first two weekends would be 108 points for a two-bedroom Friday and Saturday night. The second two weekends would be 112. The last weekend would be 200 (between Christmas and New Years - very high points)

Figure $10 per point, and you are looking at $1080, $1120, or $2000, depending on which weekend. It's possible that you could get a slightly lower per point cost for a transfer, but not much. You'll have to call and compare that to the cash rates.

I think it would be unlikely that you'd be able to get the DVC discount, especially during those first two weeks.

I hope I did this right...

According to disneyworld.com, the 2005 rack rate for an OKW 2br on Dec 1 & 2 (Fri & Sat) would be $980 + tax. Book it through MS, get a 25% discount and pay only $735 + tax.

Unless I'm missing something, I'd say paying cash is a better deal than renting 108 points...even if you don't get the discount.

get the cash rate from both CRO (annual pass rate) and MS (DVC rate).

I am cheaper than that - I would go over to the Pop Century and get 2 rooms.

Thanks guys for the info. I looks like cash would be my best option. It would be during the first two weekends.
I've thought of going to another resort, but the thought of moving twice would be a pain. Friday and Saturday at one place, then move to old key west for 4 nights and then move again to somewhere else for 2 nights. But $358 vs. $980 might be worth the hassle.

thanks again,

Me too!!! I would stay maybe one weekend DVC, on points, but the other week-end I would stay at a different resort..value or moderate.

When we stay two weekends, we normally stay at one of the hotels on site the first weekend. It's nice to try out something new and it's easier on the point balance. Moving isn't too difficult because I won't unpack too much till we get home.

When we stay two weekends, we usually go to Universal for one of them. This wekend we are at the BWV, next weekend at the HRH.

It looks like you have a 9-10 day stay using 2 weekends. We usually stay 10-11 days using only one weekend. We arrive on a Sunday, stay through the following weekend, and leave the following Wednesday. In reality, you could stay 12 nights with only one weekend stay.

You are missing something...11.5% tax! So the $980 becomes $980 + $112.70 = $1092.70. That's a few pennies more than renting points (assuming $10 per point), but you'd have housekeeping both of those nights. Depending on how CRO's seasons break (they are very different from DVC), you may have more of a savings later in the month...or none at all. You just have to gather the info and do the math.

As I said earlier, I really doubt you'll get the 25% DVC discount during that period. That discount is only available if DVC does not anticipate all of the points rooms to be taken. December at OKW has been sold out for months, so I think that's a real longshot.
