I haven't stayed at any of these places, but I can tell you what my AAA book indicates:

1. This is located behind HoJos, and right next to the freeway. It has a 2 diamond rating. It claims a view of the fireworks, and is probably the closest of the places you've mentioned, but I would be concerned about the proximity to the freeway.
2. I don't see this one listed. By its address, I would think it must be just on the east side of I5, not the best location.
3. This is a 3 diamond rating, and claims to be 2 blocks from DL. It is definitely further away than #1, and probably the others as well. It's also located near I5. An ad states that it was renovated in 2006.
4. This is not listed under AAA ratings, but has an ad in the AAA book stating a 2 diamond rating, and the closest Quality Inn to DL (although it looks to me that #1 is a little closer to the main entrance). It was also renovated in 2006. It is the only one that is not located next to the freeway.

I also see an ad for a Comfort Inn (Comfort Inn Maingate) that is located at 2171 S Harbor which bills itself as the closest Comfort Inn to DL. It only has an ad, not a listing.

So, in order of distance, I would guess:
1, 4, 2, 3.

3 has the best rating, but it is probably not much better than the others. I don't like that #4 and #2 were not listed in the AAA guides, but I personally would probably go with #4 just because I don't like the idea of being right next to I5. #1 would be my second choice, since it is the closest.

I just did a bit of research on the Quality Inn on Manchester for my mother's trip, so I'll share what I know.

The hotel is actually located right behind the Camelot Inn. In previous days, people were able to cut through the parking lot of the Camelot Inn to get to the DL entrance, which made it much closer than it looks on the map and definitely walking distance, BUT one of the more recent reviews indicated that a fence had been built. I don't know whether that completely rules out walking distance or not.

They have a beautiful website. They have friendly but somewhat unhelpful staff manning the phones. According to the man who answered the phone, people "can" walk to the parks from the hotel, and "some" families with small children "sometimes" do; they "can" provide directions to the park when you check-in, but seemed somewhat unwilling to do so over the phone.

I just happened to grab a RoomSavers yesterday.Of the 4 motels you listed, the Quality Inn & Suites on Manchester is the 'closest'

The 1500 block of Harbor is the Hotels right across the street (THe HOJOs is on the upper 1400 block) Anything too much above 1600 Harbor is getting a bit far out for walking after spending all day in the parks.

I have stayed at Quality Inn (your#1) It was most certaily at most a 2star (1 1/2star is more like it ). My biggest complaint was our non smoking room sure smelled like smoking happened in there. Also the bed was hard and pillows too small. (As a result of staying there we now have an extra large suit case with 2 pillows, an ocillating fan on a stand, and extension cord.) We did walk every day from there no problem. (Its across the street and behind the HOJOS.) we did not encounter any bugs. But would I stay there again? Probably not.

the reviews on tripadvisor are pretty much split, maybe a few more liking #1 than not liking it. The question I guess I need to answer, are any of these worth staying in for free? Or should I look further out from DL? I guess if we have to drive, we could stay at a choice hotel closer to the beach. But, DL is the main focus of our trip, and I really, really wanted to be close enough to walk, so we could split up easier. My kids are teens, and DH really likes to sleep in, whereas I get to the parks before rope drop! Thanks for the advice, everyone.... I guess I had better hurry and decide! Thanks again!!:cutie:
