DH & I are thinking of taking the kids on a quick 4 night trip to Universal. It will be our first Universal trip, we were at Disney in 2004 & for Thanksgiving 2006.

I know August will be HOT, but crowd wise is it beter to do a Mon-Fri before Labor Day or Thurs-Mon Of Labor Day?

I have gone both times. It's up to you. Are you staying onsite? If you're staying onsite, you'll appreciate unlimited express if you go over Labor Day weekend. The hotels turn into a ghost town after Labor Day, when everyone checks out on Monday. I think for the past 2 years, the hotels have been at about 20% occupancy once the holiday weekend is over. Come Tuesday, you won't need express at all, but it sure is nice to relax by the pool, which you'll pretty much have to yourself!

So, it depends on your crowd comfort. It's not summer or spring break peak, by any means, but a moderate crowd. Monday (Labor Day) many, many check out and there won't be much crowds at all.

We can handle crowds...we survived Disney over Thanksgiving last year and it was SOOOO crowded.

I'm hoping to convince DH to do 8/27-8/31. Have to start looking into hotel prices & airfare. We'll definately stay on site, and maybe go to SeaWorld and possible Discovery Cove.

If you are staying on-site I think I would be there over the holiday for a couple of reasons. The parks will close later and the on-site hotels will have holiday stuff going on at the pools, concerts, live bands, dive in movies and kids entertainment. Crowds wont matter since you will have hotel express. We have been there many times for labor day, before and after and like said above the crowds are moderate nothing crazy.
