We have never been to Disneyland, so I want to stay on property. There are 4 of us. 2 adults 1 son 17 and 1 daughter 11.

I would love to have two rooms, but prices might prevent that. We go to WDW all the time and love the discounts. Does Disneyland have discounts?

Looking at going July 10-12.

Discounts are hit or miss at best. There is a deal for 25% off some nights this fall, but it's hard to do length of stay. They typically just discount the week nights.

I just went and stayed at PPH. We could not get a King sized bed and ironically for the two of us were given the only room available that slept 5. It was two queen beds and a sleeper/futon type thing that was twin sized I believe. That will ensure enough beds for everyone if you can't find a discount and the room at PPH was a good size, the only thing I would find annoying in your case with one room is the bathroom is all inclusive (no sink/counter area outside to use to get ready in the morning while someone showers).

We got a discount by going Sun-Thurs, Fri/Sat seem to be out of the question since many go for just the weekend. I booked only 3.5 weeks out as it was supposed to be WDW but had to cancel. This was advertised as a last minute discount. I think summer is peak time so you may not be able to get a discount as they only have 3 hotels with high demand. I would book something (even if its offsite) that you can live with and then check pricing as you get closer to see if discounts pop up. If they do you can move, if not you have a place to stay that was locked in at a rate you are willing to pay.

For your dates I would be very surprised if disney released any discount, they haven't offered summer discounts for mid July since before carsland opened. I think you will only get third party discounts with coupon codes on sites like orbitz etc. Which hotel to stay at is very subjective Look online and see which theming you like best. My favourite is the DLH. To me it is the most magical with a classic disney feel. The pool is the best, and the rooms have lots of Disney details. It is about an 8 minute walk to the parks, and easy access to the monorail station.

One of the BIG issues I have with Disney Hotels is the "request" versus Guarantee. In this day and age of computers, how hard is it to do what the vast majority of Hotels do, and Guarantee a specific type of room, such as "King Beds", or Bunk Beds, etc. Yes, the "non-Disney" Hoels sometimes do have issues and someone doesn't check out on time, a plumbing issue, etc. But then they will work with the guests, and try and make them happy with other perks, or a reduced room rate.

But Disney doesn't want to do that, they think that they don't need to deal with guests complaints... And sorry, but that is wrong. Some folks are tall, or big, and need the larger bed.

I would look at the off-property options, heck some are closer to the Main Entrance Plaza than Disney owned ones, they offer shuttles to the Transportation Hub (Disney doesn't), some offer free breakfast and other perks. (MUCH different than Orlando)

IMHO, a much better value for your money.

I agree with PP usually no July discounts. Sometimes they have early June and late August discounts but not July for the most part. If price is a factor, the Paradise Pier Hotel is the least expensive of the 3. Great rooms too - very large. We try to stay at Disneyland Hotel for its Disneyness. If we're paying all that money I want it to drip Disney!

The best way I've found to get the best rooms is to send a fax directly (you "can" call too) to the front desk. I send it 2-4 days in advance, request a specific room number and also specify what I'm exactly looking for. I've never been disappointed. If you sign up to touringplans.com, you can see room views and they'll send the request for you (i've also done this as well) but it is a paid service (although not much). I've done both DVC and non-DVC rooms. I've never been disappointed and have gotten my exact room a couple of times.

The majority of the rooms at the PPH are 2 queens/1 daybed. There are a *very limited* number of king rooms.

To the OP, your best bet if you can do it price wise would be a 1 bedroom suite. If not, most of the PPH rooms and the DLH rooms are 2 queens/1 daybed. The GCH has 39 2queen/1 daybed rooms. They also only have about 50 king bed rooms in all of the 900 rooms. Majority are 2 queen rooms.

Disneyland has discounts, but you don't know when they will show up. If you want to stay onsite, I would book one now and hope for the discounts and get them applied when they come out.

I have not found DL to be as discount friendly as WDW. I go ahead and make my reservations that I can afford as early as possible.
Then cross my fingers for a discount to magically appear that I can have applied to it later on. Last year it worked and I saved $500.:flower3:
