I took my dd to DL last April and we stayed at the DLH and had a great time. She is dying to go back. Looking at the first week in March (which is not spring break, because I hate crowds.) I hear the monorail will be done, which is one reason at stay at DLH. So what is a good off property hotel/Motel? I am looking for the following:
1. some where a single mom and a 5 year old will feel safe.
2. Somewhat large room,
3. refridge. in the room,
4. close to DL
5. food close, if not room service, for breakfast and dinner.
6. Things we enjoyed at DLH: walking around the property at night, the pool (may not be an issue in March), walking through downtown disney and doing some shopping.
so where would you stay? :Pinkbounc :cheer2:

The Howard Johnson is an excellent hotel. Hightly recommended. The Castle Inn, otoh, is not. It's a total pit. Don't stay there at all.

If you can afford it, I think your best bet is to stay on property. The Grand Californian is the most convenient. You can get a room with bunk beds and the rooms are decent size and you can request a fridge for free. The GC is the priciest, though. The DLH will also work-the monorail is convenient for going to DL. You will have to walk all the way down Downtown Disney, or thru the GC to get to CA Adventure, though. March weather can be nice, so you can still enjoy the grounds! Paradise Pier is more walking than either hotel, but it is a little less. I prefer the GC because it is the closest to everything and I like the rooms. We splurge once in a while and get it! :)
