Help me decide whether to stay at Hilton Grand Vacations Seaworld or Hilton Grand Vacations International Drive!

We will be staying at one of these for three nights while we visit Seaworld and Discovery Cove. We will then be moving on to the Yacht Club while we visit the Disney parks.

HGV Seaworld looks like it is walkable to the parks we will visit, but not close to much else. HGV International Drive is farther from Seaworld and DC (5-10 min?), but it is close to grocery shoppping and restaurants.

Does anyone have an opinion as to which resort is nicer? HGV International Drive is $20 more per night, so the price difference isn't a big deal. Just trying to decide which one is a better option for us (me, DH, and 4 kids ages 5-14). We will have a rental car.

TIA!

The Seaworld location is Hilton's best resort for families with children. Shopping isn't as close as the one on International Drive but there is a Publix only a mile away. The HGVC on I-Drive is more elegant than SeaWorld. They both have excellent pools and amenities. Both are only minutes away from Downtown Disney. If your focus is on the kids I would go to Seaworld, you are only minutes away by car from the I-Drive location and all the shopping you were talking about (Prime Outlet Mall backs up to the I-Drive HGVC, they even have their own entrance to it and staff will drop you off there in a golf cart). If your aim is to shop and relax in luxury then go for I-Drive. You won't go wrong either way.

We were at the SW location (we've been to all 3 HGVCs) in March, here is a review for you to read:

HGV Seaworld looks like it is walkable to the parks we will visit, but not close to much else.

There are sidewalks from this resort to SeaWorld and I think that there are sidewalks all the way between the resort and Discovery Cove. It's a little less than a mile walk from the resort to SeaWorld's gate and probably just over a mile to Discovery Cove.
There's a new (opened at the end of Feb or beginning of March) CVS store on the corner or Westwood Boulevard and Central Florida Parkway - less than a quarter mile from the resort. The closest grocery store is an old-ish Publix store on Central Florida Parkway about a mile and a half from the resort. (A newer, larger Publix store is about three miles from the resort off International Drive and near the I-Drive HGVC. The Premium Outlet shopping complex is down there, too.)

HGV International Drive is farther from Seaworld and DC (5-10 min?), but it is close to grocery shoppping and restaurants.

Five to ten minutes from SeaWorld/Discovery Cove is about right from this resort.
The Publix store that I mentioned above is located across Vineland Avenue from the resort - can't get much closer than that.
There are loads of restaurants that are close to either of these HGVC resorts, but not much that's walkable from either unless you eat at the food court at the Premium Outlets or at the Outback or McDonalds that are across Vineland from the I-Drive resort. If you're driving to restaurants either resort will work well for you.

We've only stayed at the SeaWorld HGVC and we thought that it was very nice. The I-Drive location is newer, with less mature landscaping and well located, though I've always thought it was wedged in between the Outlets and the adjacent housing - I think there are walls all around the resort so that's probably not a issue when you're inside the resort.

I think that either would be good choices but if you want to avoid SeaWorld parking fees then the SeaWorld location would be the one.

Thanks so much Detailor and Purseval for the detailed info!

If we stay at the SeaWorld HGVC, will be drive past the Publix that is across from the other HGVC on our way there from the airport? This is our first time in Orlando, and I'm not sure what direction everything is in relation to everything else. Our flight doesn't arrive until 11 p.m., but we wanted to stop by a grocery store quickly on our way to the resort to grab milk and cereal for the next morning.

I'm an HGVC owner and have stayed at both properties. Sea World is better for kids, IMO but if you're looking for shopping, I-Drive is best - you can go from I-Drive to the outlets with a short walk.

We're going to be staying at the Sea World property in June. With the family-friendly atmosphere, I think our kids will enjoy it greatly. I-Drive has more of an upscale feel to it.

If you take the South Exit from the airport and then take SR 417 West you'd pass right by that Publix store on your way up International Drive toward your resort. If you take the North Exit from the airport to SR 528 West you'd take the International Drive exit and continue on past where you'd turn toward your resort on I-Drive for another 4 miles to the Publix and then backtrack. Both 528 and 417 are toll roads, you go through two toll booths on each road on the way to International Drive - $1.75 for 528, $2.50 for 417.

Here are the directions for each...

Airport South Exit:
The exit road is on the right, so move into a right lane as traffic permits.
Continue on the South exit road for about four miles to SR 417.
Turn right onto 417 West (Orlando/Disney).
Continue on 417 to exit 6 (International Drive/SR 536/Disney), about 11 miles.
- along the way the first toll booth is about a mile and a half after you start on 417 and the second toll booth is about 8 miles beyond that
- at both toll booths go way over to the right for the manned, cash lanes
At the end of the Exit 6 exit ramp get into the right lane and turn right onto International Drive.
It's about 1 3/4 to 2 miles to the traffic light at the intersection with Vineland Avenue, get into the left turn lane here (HGVC I-Drive is on the left there).
Turn left onto Vineland Avenue, the shopping center that Publix is in is immediately on the right.
To get to HGVC SeaWorld, leave the Publix shopping center and go back to the International Drive intersection. Turn left onto I-Drive. Continue about 2 1/2 miles to the intersection with Central Florida Parkway. (You could also take the earlier left turn on Westwood Boulevard to Sea Harbor Drive but, since you'll be there early in the morning and probably tired, I think taking CFP will be easier.) Turn left onto CFP and go about 3/4 of a mile to the traffic light at the Sea Harbor Drive intersection (you'll go past the SeaWorld entrance on the right). Get into the left turn lane and turn left onto SeaWorld Drive. The main entrance to the resort is almost immediately on the left.

Airport North Exit:
Also a right exit from the main airport loop road. Just follow the signs to the North Exit (SR 528). It's a couple of miles to the entrance ramp to SR 528 West (Orlando/Disney).
Once on SR 528 toward Orlando you'll go about a half mile to the first toll booth (this one is $1). The next toll booth (75 cents) is about 4 miles beyond the first one. As with SR 417, the manned, cash booths are way over to the right.
From the second toll booth, continue about five miles to Exit 1 (International Drive).
Get into one of the left turn lanes and turn left onto International Drive.
Continue almost 4 miles to the traffic light at Vineland Avenue (a Walgreens drug store will be on the right).
Turn right onto Vineland and then turn right into Publix parking lot.
Follow the same directions as above to get back to the resort.

I'd suggest that you go onto one of the online mapping sites - mapquest or google maps - so you can see how all of those words translate into visual form.

The part of Orlando that you'll be in is very easy to navigate as long as you've got a good map and a general idea of where things are. Have a great trip.

Publix will be closed at that time of night. You will need to go to Walmart to get something. If it was me I would check in to the resort, take the things in then run out to the store myself while everyone else was getting settled in. It's really easy to get to Walmart from the Seaworld resort. A bit more difficult to get to a Walmart from the I-Drive one but not bad either. If you are staying at the I-Drive HGVC, just want a few items and don't mind paying a bit more you could also go to the Goodings at Crossroads across from Downtown Disney, that would be the closest market open at that hour.

Since we haven't flown into Orlando in years I can't tell you if there is a Walmart on the way from the airport but I can give directions to both of the ones that you would go to from either resort. Ask if you need them or when you decide on a resort.

It looks like we'll be staying at the SeaWorld HGVC! I'm glad to know it is the best one for kids. I was already leaning that way because it is so well located to SW and DC.

Since the Publix will be closed when we get there, I would appreciate info. about the closest Walmart or other 24 hr.-with groceries-type-store. If I just have an address, I can get directions from MapQuest.

Thanks again!

The closest WalMart is about 2 1/2 to 3 miles away on Turkey Lake Road - very easy to get there from HGVC SeaWorld. I don't know the address but you'd be able to find at WalMart's website store locator link.

It's on Turkey lake Road, not sure of the exact address but you can google it easily enough. To get to it you leave the resort entrance and turn right, that is Sea Harbor Drive. The first light you come to is Central Florida Parkway, make a left. You will see huge signs (If you looked at my HGVC Seaworld review you'll see a picture of them) directing you to either I-4 or Palm Parkway/Turkey Lake Road. Head towards Turkey Lake Road. You will come to a traffic light. Make a right, stay straight. You will pass the post office, then Westgate Lakes then Walmart will be about another mile up the road on the left. Very easy to find.

Even though the Seaworld location seems isolated you will find it amazingly easy to get around. Just ask if you need to know where anything else is.

BTW, you can probably call and request a building once you make your reservations, they will do their best to get what you asked for. The closest ones to the main pool are Hamilton and Somerset. Again, the review I posted has a map with building names.

We've stayed at both, and both are fabulous.

ID is far more upscale and elegant it it's decor. Granite countertops and a Tuscan/Mediterranean decor. It's newer and it shows. Great proximity to WDW.

SW is wonderful as well. More of a "Florida" decor with pastels. Fantastic pools. We could see Sea World's fireworks from our balconies. Great proximity to SW, as you know.

We are staying at Sea world in June. I have a question though everyone keeps talking about a kids pool...does anyone have pics or can tell me a little more about it I havent seen any pictures of a kids pool there. Also I requested a building close to the main pools but then have read some reviews that the rooms were outdated. Does anyone know where the updated/redone rooms are??? Thanks!

like the one on 535 too

just get on International Drive South - (you can turn right or left out of SW)

I would turn right - next light take a left - stay on ID until it deadend - turn right at traffic light - then turn left at next traffic light - you are on 535 - on your left will be a Walmart (in around 1/2 mile)

the 1 and 2 - Vineland (535) and Turkey lake

Sorry to ressurect this old thread, but why does everyone say the Sea World location is better for kids than the International Drive location?

I'd like to know why too :)

We are staying there in January '11 for New Years....

I called both properties, as well as spoke with HGVC reservations. We are owners.

They said that in the begining, the International Drive location didn't have everything open, which may have been why folks were saying this. They said now their kid programs are identical, and the pools have lots of kids stuff and activities. Movies by the pool, etc.
