Me too, I do not care what these people think on this subject, or really any other subject. Get a life.L&G'S Dad. As far as this community forum goes.
And yet, you're still reading and posting? :confused3 :rotfl:

Having a house and kids would make you pay LESS. I hate our tax system. I work just as hard as the other people in the office but get to keep less of my money because I don't have kids. The argument about those who make more should pay more doesn't take into consideration all the things people get deductions for. There are people making the same amount of money but paying different amounts in taxes. It's ridiculously unfair.

We need to do away with all these ridiculous credits, blah blah blah. Everyone should pay a set percentage of their income. That is the only logical way to do it.
When you have kids, you have more people living on the same income. That's the theory behind giving deductions for children. And the resulting tax savings is far less than it costs to clothe, feed and otherwise care for those kids for the year, so really, you are keeping more of your income for yourself than those people with kids are. ;)

I have 100 post and you have 4,000 post. Who needs a life. Yes, I look when I am bored. And post not to often. L&G's Dad.

I know :) I'm just glad I don't have a husband or kids :rotfl: (house too only because I don't want to deal with the maintenance). I don't really "get" the child tax credit anyways. My parents never received any kind of tax credit for my brother and I, they both worked full time jobs, and we had VERY little luxuries growing up (never fast food, vacations were always camping and all meals in the camper, you only got any new clothes for birthdays/Christmas, etc.). I think that money could be put to better use.

Wait till the Value Added Tax hits. Let the games begin then.......

But I'm giving more of my income to the government and people with kids are getting to keep more of their income to spend as they please... whether or not they're spending it on their kids or a vacation home is a moot point.

We're doing the same amount of work and they get to spend more of their money. Even if we make the exact same hourly rate and work the exact same hours. They get to spend more of their money than I do.

Flat percentage, no deductions is the only fair tax plan. People say they're happy paying their fair share.... well, EVERYONE should be paying their fair share.

Who are you "me tooing" and telling to get a life? And as far as this community forum goes, what?

I made more in 2009 than I ever have (I am in my 40s).

I do not mind that some people pay nothing in income tax.

It is part of what makes America great - give us your tired. your poor etc.

No way in hell would I ever want to be in the half that does not pay taxes! I will take my cushy life thank you very much.

Cushy? Life isn't very cushy when you have to work for your money. :cutie:
We don't make much money, really. I guess we pay in pretty acurately all year as we break even in April. So we are in the paying working poor catagory. I am glad we are healthy though. It would rot to be in the paying working poor catagory and be ill and too poor to stay home and take care of your health.
Go plant flowers and be happy.

I am with you as well! Count me in!:)

I feel like we're on the "poorer" side of things (median US income, but a little more than half of the avg. income for the county. ouch.) and we still pay.

Are people not understanding this poll? The answers being posted make me think not. The poll relates to the fact that half of us in the U.S. pay federal taxes and the other half pays none. The poll does not relate to whether you end up getting a refund or paying Uncle Sam come April 15th.

Yes, I am in the half that pay taxes, and because of increased income I moved into a new tax bracket last year so I now pay more taxes. I am happy to have the income I do, and I am happy to pay my share of taxes. It is a bit disconcerting though to learn that 50% of our country is supporting 100% of it.

I don't think they are understanding this poll which leads me to think they did not read the link

I'm not the one who is saying I don't care about the topic. :lmao: Personally, I enjoy the discussions I have on the DIS. My life is great, thanks, I don't need to change it at all. It doesn't matter how often you post, the fact is, you're reading this thread and posting on it now, yet you say you don't care. :confused3 Hmmm. You're doing something you think is stupid. I'm doing something I think is fun. Who needs a life? ;)

Life isn’t fair. Sometimes two people work the same job, doing the exact same thing, same hours and get paid differently to begin with.

The theory behind our tax system's standard deductions and exemptions is to prevent workers from paying tax until they reach a level of income that they can live on. Naturally, that level is going to be higher for a family of 4 than for a single person. Every flat tax proposal I have ever seen still provides generous personal exemptions for the taxpayer, spouse and each child, and would still result in your parent coworkers paying less than you.

The U.S. federal income tax began as a flat rate with no deductions, but over time, it has evolved to take into consideration individual taxpayer needs like family size, medical costs, state taxes paid, and to encourage behaviors that our society has deemed valuable, like home ownership, marriage and charitable giving. I'm not saying that it's right or wrong, but there are specific reasons for each deduction, and I would bet if we moved to a flat tax now, mortgage interest and charitable contribution deductions would creep back in in no time, and the rest would follow. ;)

This year, receive. Not much, but enough that our credits/deductions completely nullified our self-employment tax liability for the first time since DH started his business. And let me tell you, I'd MUCH rather be back to paying.

I'm actually curious what the percentages would be over the course of a lifetime. I suspect there are quite a few people who are payers for their prime working years, but might have been receivers when just starting out or will be receivers in their later years. Over a course of a lifetime, how much does it balance out?

Over a normal working lifetime in a typical middle class family, I'll bet it balances fairly well. Young adults, even in lower wage/entry level jobs, generally pay. Families with minor children generally don't. But when the nest empties, they pay the most of their working lives due to being further along in their careers and no longer having deductions.

I receive. Quite a bit also. Because of a credit, I'm going to be getting over twice as much as I ever have. Thanks goodness because I'm BROKE!

Our upcoming trip is already paid for from last May but it's a trip I certainly shouldn't be taking. The only thing my tax return is going to pay for: school. Lame.

Oh yeah fwiw, I owe $58 for state. I always owe $30-70 for state though...

92 million out of 130 million "taxpayers" (I use quotes since many, if not most in this group, won't have to pay taxes) have an average adjusted gross income of $19,521. How much tax do you think they should be paying?

I'm more then happy to be on the side of those that have to pay.
