Which good neighbor hotel do you choose?

We like the Red Lion and are staying there again in February. In saying that, we just want a close (to us, a 15 minute walk is no big deal), clean place to stay and we like that the parking lot is pretty secure with abundant parking.

I would rather eat our meals in the park then at the hotel, but I know they run specials sometimes where breakfast and the parking is included in the price.

It is upstairs, and I have heard it isn't bad as long as you don't do anything from Kidds itself. Just make sure not to go back assuming "Oh, breakfast was ok, so it can't be bad..." Only reason that place stays in business is the high turnover of unsuspecting tourists.

Yep, McDonalds is higher than your average, and Denny's is about $1 a plate higher than the normal Denny's. Be aware, it can be cheaper to walk down to Mimi's than IHOP or Denny's. Mimi's at Disney is the same price as my hometown Mimis.

My understanding always was that BWPPI just used the room upstairs and it wasn't food from Capt Kidds?
We stay either at BWPPI or Anaheim Plaza.

We are planning our trip for summer of '13. I am wondering which good neighbor hotel people would recommend? I am leaning towards a Residence Inn style hotel but am open to other suggestions. Thank you.

We have stayed at the Ramada Inn Maingate and at the Park Vue Inn. Next trip we are staying at the Residence Inn Maingate on Clementine as we would like a kitchen suite. We enjoyed our stay at both the Ramada and PV. The breakfast at the Ramada is all cold selections where as PV has a hot selections as well. We found the rooms at the Ramada to be quite spacious and really enjoyed that. The new pool at the Ramada is fantastic too. Both are quite close to the entrance - although PV is right across the street which is helps tired legs! We found both to be quite clean and staff to be great. I would stay at either of them again.
Wow! I just realized how fortunate I have been!! Life is good!!:cool1:

I chose the Howard Johnson for DS7 and I this past March, based on getting a discount and their cool kids pool area. It would take us 7-8min walking normal pace to get to the DL bag check area. The only complaint I have is that I prepaid this reservation months in advance and at check-in teh front desk confirmed that and said I'd only have $50 held on my card. Nope they charged the WHOLE rservation again. I had to take time out of my park time to deal with that at the hotel and with the bank.

DS pointed to the Best Western Park Place Inn on one of the days and said THAT is where he wanted to stay next time (gee how'd he know there would be a next time hehe) because it was right across the street from the DL entrance.

Last month, making plans for our May trip, I brought up the hotels again and I pointed out online the difference in pool and he didn't care, he said a pool is a pool and if he can at least swim he is fine with it (he's in swimming lessons and swears he'll be an Olympian someday we shall see).

So, we are giving the BWPPI a try this time! It was cheaper to book directly thru their website because online they offer a no-car discount that saves you roughly $20 a night!!! They also have free breakfast and are right next door to Ihop.

That is how I first picked the BWPPI! After being hot and tired from the parks, and loading a stroller in the ART, we passed the BWPPI. I told myself the next time we go to DL, we are staying there. The convenience and good service have made us return. I also like that I can pay cash at check in, and I have only ever had to pay a small deposit. I think it is either $30 or $50. The BWPPI rents the upstairs area from Captain Kidds, and the food is provided by BWPPI. We usually just have cereal in the morning at home, so it's actually a step up from what we usually eat. Hope you enjoy your stay!

So glad you started this thread! I currently have 3 rooms on hold and I cannot decide!! I have the DoubleTree,The Carousel Inn, and the Hilton Garden Inn. I'm thinking I'm going with either the DoubleTree or I may change the Carousel to the Fairfield Inn. Any thoughts?

We have stayed at the BWPPI the past three times. We love the convenience of the location. We have four kids and it suits us just fine.

We prefer the Fairfield Inn (more like 7-10 min walk vs. what another poster said). It is our favorite and we've stayed in several on Harbor.

If a pool is important then the second choice would be HOJO. These are my top two.

If you just want the closest to the property then choose Best Western Park Place Inn.
