We are planning our trip for summer of '13. I am wondering which good neighbor hotel people would recommend? I am leaning towards a Residence Inn style hotel but am open to other suggestions. Thank you.

we usually stay at the Fairfield (Marriott) its about a 15 min walk to the gates...have stayed at the Residence Inn, its very nice but have to take the ART shutttle or drive which takes extra travel time and parking costs

We stayed at HoJo last November and we were happy with it, no complaints. We are going back this December and we will be staying at the Tropicana Inn and Suites....and I'm nervous because we have never stayed there lol.

We like the Best Western Park Place Inn and Suites. Its close, close, close!!

If you need suites, the Residence Inn Maingate is great! Hot breakfast, great staff, on the ART route. For us, we like the Candy Cane Inn (premium rooms). Great staff, breakfast, and a private shuttle that runs on time.

We love the pools at the HOJO, as well as the as the early 1960's modern style. The grounds are beautiful, it is super clean, and the beds are comfy. The view of the fireworks are nice as well. Highly recommend.

With little kids I'd do HOJO b/c of their fun pool and water-play area for little ones as well as their family suites. With bigger kids or adults I'd do Candy Cane Inn b/c they have clean quiet rooms, breakfast included, lovely landscaped grounds w a good (not great) pool, v helpful staff, and while being in walking distance CCI offers a twice hourly shuttle just in case your tootsies can't take another step.

We've stayed at Candy Cane Inn the past four or five times.
We like:

The free breakfast- not a hot meal, but plenty of choices and a good money and time saver.

The short walk to DLR- We timed it once at 8 minutes to security. Coming back if we are tired it took us 12 minutes. ;)

The free shuttle-We find it easier to walk to the park in the morning, but when we come back for an afternoon nap- we time the end of our break to take the shuttle back to DLR.

The friendly staff

The clean rooms- yes, the rooms can be small but we've stayed in the deluxe with our two teen boys and fit just fine. When just DH and I go, we have found the standard to be plenty of room for us.

The discounts- they offer a $10 off per night coupon for you next visit and will combine it with a AAA or AP discount saving us $20 per night. I believe they also have an AARP and military discount too, but you'd have to check the website about that.

This may be the one that we stay at next time, but we enjoyed our stay at the Fairfield Inn just two weeks ago. It was clean, although we would come back around 2 or 3 each afternoon and our room hadn't been picked up yet, but not really that big of a deal.

I chose the Howard Johnson for DS7 and I this past March, based on getting a discount and their cool kids pool area. It would take us 7-8min walking normal pace to get to the DL bag check area. The only complaint I have is that I prepaid this reservation months in advance and at check-in teh front desk confirmed that and said I'd only have $50 held on my card. Nope they charged the WHOLE rservation again. I had to take time out of my park time to deal with that at the hotel and with the bank.

DS pointed to the Best Western Park Place Inn on one of the days and said THAT is where he wanted to stay next time (gee how'd he know there would be a next time hehe) because it was right across the street from the DL entrance.

Last month, making plans for our May trip, I brought up the hotels again and I pointed out online the difference in pool and he didn't care, he said a pool is a pool and if he can at least swim he is fine with it (he's in swimming lessons and swears he'll be an Olympian someday we shall see).

So, we are giving the BWPPI a try this time! It was cheaper to book directly thru their website because online they offer a no-car discount that saves you roughly $20 a night!!! They also have free breakfast and are right next door to Ihop.

Just to clarify, the free breakfast is at Captain Kidds, and the IHOP is the most expensive one in the nation.

We stay at the Residence Inn Maingate on Clementine. Staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and large. They have a free hot breakfast each morning, and manager specials a couple evenings a week. They will grocery shop for you and have a small market on site. We find it very convenient.

Good point about it being at CK, thanks! And it's so weird all the bad dining reviews I hear about them yet their breakfast reviews say it's fine (not outstanding but fine).
I believe the breakfast buffet is set up in an upstairs area, not in the main restaurant itself.

Heck the McD's is priced high too, wouldn't expect anything less from Ihop;-)

Candy Cane, clean, close, free breakfast, free parking, great staff, nice grounds, and near the ABC mini market.

It is upstairs, and I have heard it isn't bad as long as you don't do anything from Kidds itself. Just make sure not to go back assuming "Oh, breakfast was ok, so it can't be bad..." Only reason that place stays in business is the high turnover of unsuspecting tourists.

Yep, McDonalds is higher than your average, and Denny's is about $1 a plate higher than the normal Denny's. Be aware, it can be cheaper to walk down to Mimi's than IHOP or Denny's. Mimi's at Disney is the same price as my hometown Mimis.

We have stayed at Camelot, Howard Johnson, Best Western Park Place.

So far, our favorite was BWPPI, simply because of location.

Next year we are staying at Ramada Maingate. Hoping it is as good as everyone says it is.
