Which FPs to get first at each park?

We will be hitting DL on 6/4 & 6/5 then going to DCA on 6/6 & 6/7. What are the most important FastPasses that we need to focus on in each park? Which ones do we need to get as soon as we get to the park and then what would you think should be the next to get?

If it's warm, which it probably will be in early June...

At DL, Star Tours, then Space, then Splash, then Indy.

At DCA, Soarin, then Screamin, then Grizzly River Run, then ToT.

Any other FP probably won't run out until much later in the day.

Also, please please please don't limit yourself to just one park per day. Make sure you hop between the two as they are just 90 seconds apart.

You can hold FP's at BOTH parks simultaneously and bounce back between the two - their FP systems are not connected, and remember, YOU CAN USE YOUR FP LATER THAN YOUR WINDOW if you'd like to collect them and come back at a later time to use them.

Until they start enforcing the time limits like WDW is. Which, they might when Carsland opens in June.

Is TSMM not a FP attraction? I know that's the #1 FP to get at HS at WDW.

Is it really that fast?

How do you do this? Do you spend 30 mins in Dis then 30 mins in DCA or just grab FP throughout the day for both parks? Or just get FPs for one park on your way out of another park?

From gate to gate? Yes. I'm guessing you haven't been before. If so, you'll laugh when you first see it. I'll typically go to DL a few hours, get a couple FP's, go to DCA for lunch, grab an FP or two, go to DL to use them, back to DCA to use them and see WOC for example... It's more like one big park than two separate ones.

I've gone before.

I'm just thinking that if you start at Dis then move to DCA and get FPs there, then you're just getting FPs in DCA instead of getting them in Dis so its not a huge advantage that FP are not connected.

If you send a runner to collect FPs from both parks at the same time that would get you almost twice as many FPs but its not the walk between gates, its the walk from say Tomorrowland to say Hollywood / Space Mountain to Tower of Terror, that can be long.

Am I overanalyzing? I'm overanalyzing. :scared1:

Dis in the AM then DCA midday then Dis in the evening does make sense though. Is that what you are talking about?

Lol, yes. I understand that from Fantasyland to Tower of Terror isn't 90 seconds, but so many people post on here saying "oh, well Wednesday is our DCA day so we won't go to DL", but there is really no need, since the parks are a stone's throw away from each other. I do understand that walking back and forth seven times between the two is impractical, but like you said, visiting one in the morning, hopping over to the other for lunch and some rides, then popping back over to the other to use your FP's and catch fireworks in DL, or WOC in DCA, makes a lot of sense instead of limiting yourself to just one per day.

Definitely do both parks in the same day if you want to get the most FP bang for you buck. The entrances are really literally 100 yards from each other. I used a distance calculator and it is about 1800 ft. to walk from the castle in Disneyland to Soarin in DCA. If you have a fit adult in your group that can act as a "runner" to get everyone fastpasses is possible to make a round trip in as little as 15 minutes. It is one of the things I love about the DLR. I love WDW too and living in Texas I'm about in the middle but I won't take my DD5 to WDW until she is older and we do a lonnggg trip because I feel like you can't do nearly as much in a day at WDW.

Enjoy your trip!

This is what we often do, as well. DL in at opening (naturally, we're in line an hour before opening..ugh.), then DCA from about 1 or 2pm until about 7pm, then back over to DL to use the FP's we collected earlier in the day and for a nighttime visit to Adventureland - Adventureland is my FAVORITE at night :upsidedow). Sometimes, DH will run over to DCA in the morning to grab Soarin' FP's so that we can use it during our afternoon jaunt over there, but not always.

DCA *is* kind of hard if you're running all over the place (No friendly train to help you out with that like there is at DL...). So, we end up hanging out in one area and repeating rides to get our fill, before moving on to another area. I don't mind walking at all, but doing things this way keeps it comfortable, IMHO.

Classic WDW mindset. Park hop each day.

DLR 29 gave you the correct short answer. But you're gonna be there 4 days. Read all of HGs FP threads (& of course his WDW vet primer). Know them.

Have a great time at Walt's Park. :thumbsup2

Since we will be there for 4 days and it's all of our (me, DW, nieces age 12 & 13) first trip to DLR, I don't want us to be rushing from park to park, ride to ride. I want us to be able to enjoy our days and not feel rushed. At the same time, I don't want to not be able to ride something because the wait is 90 minutes and there are no FP left. My plan is (for the most part) to stay at each park try to ensure we hit all the major rides the first day and then the second day to hit anything we missed, do the smaller rides and re-ride any 1st day favorites. I'm leaving the option open to park hop if need be but for the most part it will one park per day.

It is not that you need to or should rush from park to park. It is that when you add up the rides (including FPs obtainable), park hour differences (which will apparently be changing on June 15 after you leave), the major and minor shows - and the fact that shows may not all be showing every day, and restaurants, then hopping allows you to take more in.

For example, one of the best shows at DLR is the Aladdin stage show at DCA. It generally does not show every day - just 4-5 days a week. So if your "DCA days" are days where Aladdin is not showing, then it makes sense to hop over to DCA on one of your "DL" days to see it. And if you do that, it might make sense to grab a ToT FP before seeing Aladdin and then to ride it after. So maybe do a few rides.

Similarly, you may not have fireworks and Fantasmic every night at DL. So it might make sense for you on your "DCA day" to hop into DL at night to see them. If you know you might do that, it might further make sense to get some FPs earlier in the day at DL so you can use them that night when you hop to DL.

What we are saying is that there is no real reason to keep to one park per day and there are many reasons where hopping gives you added flexibility to experience a bit more of DLR.

Hope that helps. :)

Or with park hopping, you can hit a lot of the major rides in BOTH parks in one day. :goodvibes

I would also like to chime in and promote the idea of park hopping. Sometimes I don't even like to think of DL/DCA as 2 parks...but more along the lines of 1 MASSIVE park with a small esplanade in between 2 sections. It really adds to the flexibility.

In general, DCA is less crowded than DL (or gets crowded later/slower), so a lot of peoples' strategies is to start at DL in the early morning when crowds are still low, then as crowds at DL begin to build (and you've already collected a couple FPs), hop on over to DCA which has low crowds still. Pick up a few FPs in DCA and spend the afternoon maybe. Then in the evening, head back to DL for some nighttime entertainment and use those FPs that you picked up in the morning.

It's really not as stressful or "rushing" as you might think. :thumbsup2

Here's my 2 cents... worth every penny :goodvibes

ParkHopping is a great idea, but since this is your very first visit, spending your first day entirely in DL makes sense; that's what I would do.

I'd recommend starting Tuesday morning in DL because it's a Magic Morning.
If you haven't seen it, here's DLR29's Magic Morning Superthread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1675403

On Wednesday, June 6, it looks like DL will open an hour before DCA. I would start Wednesday morning in DL. Being in DL in the first hour on a non-MM day gives you a great chance to collect a couple of FPs, and to walk on to an "E-Ticket" ride.

On Thursday, June 7, you might find yourself wanting to get some extra rest, so you might start your Thursday in DCA.

HTH :earsboy:

Well I'm going to chime in here and say while I definitely agree with others that park hopping on the first day is fine, there is really nothing wrong with your plan either! In fact, for the Tokyo parks, thats how its tickets are designed. There are two parks there like in California, but if you buy a 3 or 4 day pass, you can't park hop the first two days! You have to pick, in advance, which park you want to do, TDL or TDS! You can pick in any order or do one both days, etc, but you cant park hop until your third day. The reason is what you plan to do, ie, give people time to really see and do one park and by the 3rd or 4th day, to give them a chance to just do stuff they missed or be able to hit all their favorites in both. I done it many times and it works well! Of course TDS is basically the size of AK WITH 5 times the shows and attractions, so its a full day park along with TDL of course!

But that said, the beauty of DLR is things are REALLY close! It takes minutes to get from one park to the other! DL is the smallest MK park (NOT counting HKDL) and so walking from one end to the other is faster than MK! And DCA, while bigger, and its going to get much bigger soon, is still tiny for the most part. The layout makes it a pain in the butt though! But yeah, the beauty is the area is so compact, you can easily go and get a TOT FP, walk over to DL for lunch, hit a ride there and then quickly walk back to do just TOT! And yes, as others stated, you can just get a 'runner' during a down time while you wait for a parade and have someone grab FPs for a ride to do later that night! Its soooo convient!

And yeah, thats really the beauty of FP for me because with two parks so close to each other you can rotate FPs all day AND time manage your day well with both of them unlike WDW and TDR where you have to take a bus or monorail to get back to another park!

People have given you iteneraries, but you can start your morning grabbing FPs and when you gotten a few for DL and done some morning stuff, then hit DCA for a few hours, grab a few FPs of those and do stuff inbetween like shows, other rides, etc. Then head back to DL in the evening and use a few of those OR grab a few more for the rest of the night! Honestly IF you decide to do both parks together, you can have a FP for nearly every hour your entire day and can space them out so you dont feel like you are rushing. And then you will have time to park hop to see all the shows, food stops and window shopping you want since the biggest line eaters will be covered!

But your plan sounds fine! You got four days, you are seeing DL, not trying to see half of France lol! Best advice is what you already know doing WDW: Start early and stay late and you will see basically everything no matter how you strategize!

I need more information on the “Runner” concept. If we start the morning at DL, can my family stay in that park while I run over to DCA with their tickets to get FastPasses? Will I need to scan their tickets at the DCA gate? Will they let me scan their ticket at the DCA gate w/o the guest they are assigned to? Or will the fact that they have been scanned at the DLP gate allow me to get Fast Passes inside of DCA?
