I realize it is personal preference but I have a FP for Pirates at 11:40 and want to do one of these after that. Ideally I want to ride both. Which one would be a better pick for the FP? We will be there June 11. Thanks!

I tend to find Splash is an easier FP to get as an additional FP so would select BTM.

Splash is a better use of the FP.

I wouldn't choose either! Those are walk-on's in the evening and it takes time to get there. I would focus on rides in Fantasyland, Tommorowland first thing, then move into Adventureland. To help cool off check out Tiki room & Mickey's PhilharMagic. Towards the end of the night rotate Splash & BTMR repeatedly. ::yes::

Yes, but I think OP is asking for a ride around 12:40pm, not 9pm. If it's very early afternoon, I'd say Splash for sure as its' line will be longer. Neither are particularly hard to get as a 4th FP+.

I do agree with the above quote in that if you'll be in the parks late in the evening, both of the rides are walk ons, especially during fireworks. We did that last summer...literally walked straight onto Splash, not a single moment wait.

I'd pick Splash over Big Thunder. On my last trip our 2nd MK day was the hottest of our trip. By the time we had a 4th FP available to grab everything for Splash was gone. In hindsight we should have grabbed it on our first MK day as a 4th because it was available then. The weather will certainly play a factor. Splash is my #1 priority on this next trip as I wasn't able to ride it on my last 2 trips.

I understood the question and I stand by my response. OP asked for advise and I gave it what he does with it is up to him. Fantasyland is the most crowded section in WDW. Tackling that area first is imperative, why waste a FP when you can walk on a ride in the evening. :flower3:

I would pick Splash Mountain over Big Thunder mostly because (and this is just my opinion) Splash Mountain seems to go down a lot more so we try to get it out of way earlier in the day.

Why not do both before your FP. We did BTM at rope drop, then went right onto Splash. By the time we were done both of those, the lines were around 60 minutes each. And that was the first week of February.
