First sorry if this is the wrong place to post, I thought there was a travel board but couldn't find it:confused3

I am torn between two flights....it's me, dh, and dd 1 year old. We will be getting off work Friday at 4pm, getting honest about 5.

We can take the plane that leaves at 2am, making us wake up at 1130pm, but getting us to wdw at 730pm.

Or we can do a 6am plane, wake up at 330am, and be at wdw at 11pm.

What would you suggest?

Here's the link to the Transportation board for future reference:

I think I would prefer the 2am flight since that would get me to WDW at a more reasonable time of day, plus I would think it might be easier to get some sleep on the plane if you're flying at night.

2AM flight- the baby can sleep through it, and hopefully it will help combat jet lag a bit more!

I would also take the 2am flight. It should be quiet and you can sleep then.

That sure is a long flight. I would take the 2AM flight as others have suggested. It should help keep you close to your normal sleep pattern and allow you some time to get to the hotel and settle in and get a few hours more sleep to prepare for the following day.

We flew in at 10PM once and by the time we got to the hotel and settled it was around 1AM and it made the following day a little rough for everyone.

Yes I agree very early flight, but being from alaska I'm far away. I'm thinking 2am as well, thanks :)

Imagine you were not the parent on that flight. Imagine you see a 1 year old getting onto the airplane. Onto the flight where YOU want a chance of sleeping.

Imagine the 1 year old has gotten jazzed up about being woken before midnight, and is now a tired but AWAKE, possibly cranky, little soul. Who won't be quiet.

Now imagine being that 1 year old's parent. Who expected to be able to sleep*, but now can't, because the 1 year old won't, and ALL of your late-night, should be sleeping, energy is being taken up by entertaining the baby, trying to get it to go back to sleep, and above all, trying to not bother the other passengers.

*Also, how exactly were you expecting to sleep, as the parent of a 1 year old, on the flight? When I got on board with a 17 month old, for some reason I thought I would be able to sleep. I'm not quite sure where I got that idea from. I realized the error of my ways approximately 5 minutes after boarding.

And lastly, even if the baby is tired and sleeping, you cannot control everyone on the plane, and you might very well be seated next to people who will talk All Night Long, never sleeping. Not rowdy enough to get a flight attendant involved, but loud enough to keep you and/or baby awake.

I wouldn't touch that 2am flight with a ten foot pole. Go for the 7:30 one. For your sake, baby's sake, and the sake of everyone else on that plane. The chance of it all going perfectly is just way too low.

I'd go for 2am.. But bring the car seat, and buy a extra seat.. This way baby can sleep in the carseat... I've never met a baby who would not fall asleep in a carseat..

Also this makes it's it easier for you to get some sleep... Trust me on this..
I took our 9mo. Old on a flight and thought I wouldn't need a seat... I was so wrong.
Every time I moved she woke up.. I felt so trap.. I was even scared to breath.. In fear I might wake her up..

2am but with a seat.. Also check with the airlines.. On long flight virgin as baby beds!! They are really NICE!

My kids won't fall asleep in the car. Even on an 8+ hour trip, they haven't slept in the car in their car seats. I'm with the poster who said that you can't bank on everything perfectly with a one year old. I say take the later flight.

BINGO.

That was precisely my thought.

For the people who say to take the later one because of the baby.. the flight is only four hours later, the baby will be waken up in the middle of her sleep either way. But what are the chances that many of them 2am people have stayed up all night an will be passed out at the beginning of that flight, compared to people actually getting sleep and an early start who will be all pumped up on their morning coffee ready to.go about the day and chatting loudly keeping your already sleepy baby from falling asleep. -It's a long flight, the baby will be grumpy at some point no matter which flight you'r on, there's no way to avoid that, but I think keeping her as close as possible to the normal routine is best.

When it comes to WDW trips I say "The sooner the better!" In your case, I don't think so.

Take the 6am flight, arrive at 11pm, check into your resort and get a good night's sleep. You can't operate on Alaska time and function in WDW. If you arrive at 7:30pm, there's not that much you can do at that hour and you'll be very tired and will likely be asleep by 9pm. Then you'll wake up too early (when there isn't much you can do), and you'll be tired again too early that night. Assuming you generally sleep through the night and stay awake during the day, you should force yourself to maintain that schedule. :earsboy:

My DD is the kid who doesn't sleep much and never naps. She has been flying at least once a year since 9 weeks old and I would do the 2am flight. The plane will be dark, barely any activity (quiet) and the baby will more likely sleep than on a plane in bright light and lots of activity and noise. When we did middle of the night flight from Hawaii pretty much everybody on the plane fell asleep!

See these are the thoughts that keep running through my head which makes it worse lol. She will have her own seat, and she does sleep well in her car seat. She flew at 2 months from Arizona to alaska and slept the whole time. Please keep the advice coming, thanks.
