I am almost 60 days out!!! and would like to know which is better: The 5 star St Johns or St Johns Trunk bay & snorkle.

I would like to be at trunk bay and enjoy st johns as long as I can...thanx for all the help!!

If you want to maximize your time on St John, try to do your own excursion. Its very easy to rent a car and catch the car ferry at Red Hook over to Cruz Bay.

IrishCowboy ~ How much is it to get a taxi to get to Red Hook and how much is it to take the boat to Trunk Bay. We are a family of 5 and are going to do this on our own, instead of through DCL. I'm so afraid we'll get lost. Thanks!

We did the 5 star last month. It was beautiful, but it's a long boat ride and you only snorkle for about 45 minutes and then the long ride back.

You can swim or take a dinghy to the beach, but you are really not there long enough.

Someone else should be able to answer questions about the other tour.

Congrats on 60 days out! Very exciting stuff!

We too, had a great time on the St John 5 Star, (I took the pic below while on that excursion), but like other posters have said, your time there is short.

Thank you for the info.....45 minutes is definately not long enough - could someone tell me exactly how to get there on my own or if there is another DCL tour that gives you more time on St Johns??

We went there several years ago, and we thought we had made it to heaven's beach it was the most beautiful beach we ever were at!

Thanx for all your help!!:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We realized the trunk bay and 5-star excursions are similar save for snorkeling time. The trunk bay excursion has a half hour more it seems. Apparently the trunk bay boat passes the 5-star boat on the way there, hence the more time snorkeling for the trunk bay one.

We are still on the 5-star simply because we want time to explore St. Thomas a little. That and we'll snorkel on CC anyways. Two cents worth.

It's easy! With a family of 5, I would definately rent a car and do things on my own. Taxis on St Thomas and St John charge per person, I think it would be cheaper for you to do it with a rental car and you'll get to see much more of St John.

Here's a secret for you, when you go to St John, travel past Trunk Bay and you'll find very nice beaches that you can have all to yourself!

videoman...It is really very easy. We did it with 4 adults 4 kids! When you get off the ship the Taxies are lined up. Just walk down the line asking for Red Hook. The taxie will take you to the ferry where you but tickets (round trip) at a little booth. Get on board and relax for the 20-30 min trip. Once at St John, again the taxies will be lined up!Tell them where you want to go, climb into the taxie and you are there!
TIPS for this trip:
Ask the price of all cabs BEFORE you get in
Bring cash for transportation costs
Bring a credit card for chair/snorkel rental at Trunk Bay
Be sure to check the ferry times and head back apx. 2pm to give yourself plenty of time to get back to the ship.
There is a small snack bar at Trunk Bay or bring a cooler from the ship with some sandwiches.
Hit the showers at Trunk Bay before heading back (it makes the ride back much better :p )

We have done both the 5-Star and "on our own" and MUCH prefer the "On our own" trip.
I'll be happy to give you a "refresher" on these instruction when we see you on board!:teeth:

Thank you RellingTwin....I know you will be on the same cruise as I am....I will take you up on that refresher when we meet on board....(not so far away might I add....but who's counting??):hyper:
