Which DVC should my 22 year old daughter buy???

Thanks for all of the responses! In the end, I think she is going to watch for a small resale at AKL. As wildernessdad pointed out, it was designed by the same architect that did VWL. It really has great theming and is a wonderful resort. Furthermore, her points can really go far with the tiered levels. I appreciate everyone's input!!

Hi just reading thru this thread and I agree... if she really likes VWL then I think she will be just as happy with AKL. What is unique about AKL is that it feels like 2 resorts in 1 now that we have both Jambo and Kidani :thumbsup2 Concierge is also a nice option. There are some great resales out there. We just closed on a 100 point resale a few months ago for $75/point. Truthfully we did no negotiating at the time and I have seen even better prices on the resale sites. Good Luck!

I would vote for BLT due to the length of the contract and the lower dues. I would think it would be easier to sell it later on than other DVCs.

I am 28 and bought my small resale contract to start out an extend OKW contract... i like the idea of the boat to dtd and the theaming also they are the only dvc rooms with 2 queen beds in a studio. Also it was 70$pp i think maybe less i forget all together 50 points was about 5000$ with closing costs (i forget exact number) for the extended contract my dues are about 250 a year and it came with 50 points that were banked 50 available and we borrowed the next years 50 and stayed for 11 days total. we did the small contract so we could try a few DVC's to decide where we really wanted to commit so the cheapest price to the longest term was what really chose our home resort.

If she like VWL, that's where I would say to buy. I would not worry about the length of the contract, they are sure to offer an add of years at some point. Also thinking about 50 years is really a long time. Considering Disney World has only been around 39 years. Meaning if you bought DVC the day Disney opened you would still have 11 years left.

I think AKL is a good choice. Its similar theming to VWL but has more years. Best of both worlds.

We bought into DVC 2 and a half years ago now (I was 23 and DH was 22) and it was the best decision we ever made.

We chose SSR for our points as we were not buying resale. We got 225 points and they offered the best incentives :)

My wife and I were both very fortunate to pay cash for our 200pts at BLT when we were 28 and 25. While the length of the contract was somewhat important due to our age, the biggest draw were the MF's. If you take them into consideration through at least half the contract, it makes a huge difference.

At 22 will she do long range planning 7 - 11 months????
If so then VWL would be my rec.
If she wants quick ressies (which I believe she may want once she starts her job) than go with the longer contract.

If she is a big fanatic of disney she can probably get a better deal by
getting a bigger contract.

Anyway, good for her.....

I totally agree with this post.

I'm 25 and I have just bought BLT. Things that swayed me over any other resort:
Longer contract
Transport options - I won't be hiring a car for my trips in the near future
Ease of transport to MK and EPCOT (my 2 favourite parks)
Security - although we'll be taking family trips in the short term, eventually I'll be going on my own (first solo trip in March) and I prefer the tower block feel
Resort monorail - like the idea of visiting/ eating at/ pool hopping (dvc privilege) to the other monorail resorts

Good on your DD and I'm sure she'll love it wherever she chooses! :)

Wow... what a great dilemma to have :)
BTW, just want to be the devil's advocate for a minute here. I also own at VWL, completely in love with the resort. However, I don't particularly like AKV.

Before I get flamed, it's all just personal preferrence of course. So, if your DD hasn't really seen the whole AKV property maybe she should take a tour before she buys in... just in case. I hope she falls in love with it and no more dilemma! :thumbsup2

Good luck!
